Players of the popular dress-up game Infinity Nikki are not happy with recent changes made to the game. The game's Version 1.5 update, which launched on April 29, has caused many problems and complaints from fans.
The update added some new features that players had been asking for, like the Dye System and multiplayer options. However, it also brought unexpected changes to the game's story and many technical problems that made it hard for some people to even play the game.
One of the biggest complaints is about changes to the game's origin story. According to posts on the Infinity Nikki subreddit, the beginning of the game is now completely different. In the original version, the main character Nikki started her journey in her mother's attic. Now, she appears in an area called the "Sea of Stars," which changes how the story begins.
Another character Ena has also been changed. Before the update, Ena was shown as a prisoner who gave Nikki a special item called the Heart of Infinity in an emotional scene. The new version shows Ena meeting Nikki while already free, telling her that Nikki has had the Heart of Infinity "at the dawn of all things." The dialogue also hints that Ena might not appear later in the story.
"It's a shame that they removed so many wonderful things from the tutorial," one fan commented on Reddit.
Players have noticed other story changes too. A popular outfit called Threads of Reunion has been removed from the tutorial chapter. How Nikki joins the Stylist Guild, meets a character Dada, and gets her Pear Pad device have all been changed as well.
The timing of these problems was especially bad because Version 1.5 also marked Infinity Nikki's debut on Steam after being available only on the Epic Games Store. Many new players trying the game for the first time also encountered crashes and stability problems.
Beyond the story changes, the update introduced other controversial features. Two new outfits called Snowbound Ballad and Undying Ember now contain 11 pieces each, requiring players to make up to 220 "pulls" (a type of in-game purchase) to collect the full sets. This is more than what players are used to, and many feel it's too expensive.
The developers also suddenly extended an event called Crown of Miraland: Peak Arena from two weeks to three weeks, causing confusion among players.
Many players are now calling for a boycott of Infinity Nikki on Steam. They're encouraging others to leave negative reviews and even uninstall the game from all platforms until changes are made. As a result, the game currently has a "Mixed" rating on Steam, with many reviews warning new players to wait before purchasing.
The protest worked to some extent. The game's developer, Infold Games, issued an apology letter and promised to fix many technical issues. As a peace offering, Infold promised to revert the Mira Crown event to end on May 16 with the next season starting the same day. They're also giving compensation to players in the form of 10 Revelation Crystals, 10 Resonance Crystals, and 1,200 Diamonds.
However, some players feel the response doesn't address all their concerns. The developers are still keeping the controversial 11-piece outfits, which many players believe will become the new standard for future releases.
The Infinity Nikki Update 1.5 is currently live, and players can get 100 free pulls as well as redeem codes for rewards including Resonance Crystals and Diamonds. The update also added a new area called Sea of Stars for players to explore.
