Krafton Likely to Host BGMI Showdown After Franchise League Cancellation

Following the reported cancellation of the much-hyped BGMI Franchise League, Krafton India is now in active discussions to introduce an alternative official tournament later this year.

According to a new report by LetsgoSports, the developer is exploring options to maintain momentum in the BGMI esports calendar, with strong indications that a new event may kick off after the third week of September.

The timing lines up with the conclusion of BGMS 2025, which is scheduled to run from August 18 to September 14.

While nothing has been officially confirmed yet by Krafton India, sources suggest that BGMI Showdown (BMSD 2025) is being considered as a replacement for the cancelled franchise league.

For those unfamiliar, BGMI Showdown is a competitive tournament series organized by Krafton in partnership with esports outfits like NODWIN Gaming. It’s not just a filler event—it has previously acted as a gateway to international tournaments and carries significant weight in the BGMI esports ecosystem.

The inaugural BGMI Showdown was held back in July 2022. Spanning four days (July 21–24), the tournament featured 24 invited teams, a round-robin format, and a total prize pool of ₹15,00,000. The top 16 teams advanced to the finals, with 7Sea Esports emerging as the champion. The win also earned them a slot at the PUBG Mobile World Invitational 2022: Afterparty Showdown, making it a high-stakes event despite its short duration.

Fast forward to 2025, and BGMI esports has seen substantial growth, with structured events like BGIS (India Series) and BMPS (Pro Series) forming the backbone of the competitive calendar. The expected Showdown would be a logical and timely addition, potentially acting as a high-profile finale to this year’s roadmap in the absence of the franchise league.

Although Krafton has not issued an official confirmation regarding the upcoming tournament, insiders suggest the company is eager to deliver a meaningful replacement to keep fans and players engaged.

For now, all eyes are on BGMS 2025, which kicks off on August 18. If the Showdown does follow, fans can expect yet another thrilling chapter in BGMI esports later this year.
