Krafton India has announced that Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) esports will adopt official transfer seasons beginning this October.
The news came during the third episode of TalkEsport’s OnPoint with DPK, featuring Karan Pathak, Associate Director of Esports at Krafton India.
Transfer Seasons are designated time windows when teams are allowed to make roster changes, meaning players can be signed, released, or transferred between organizations.

Two Transfer Windows Every Year
Pathak revealed that Krafton will implement two transfer windows annually, each lasting six months. The first cycle will run from October through March or April, covering events such as the Battlegrounds Mobile India Series (BGIS) and multiple third‑party tournaments.
The second cycle will take place from April to September, aligning with flagship competitions like the Battlegrounds Mobile Pro Series (BMPS), BGMI Masters Series (BGMS), Skyesports Championship, and the Upthrust tournament.
Teams can only make official roster changes during these windows. Outside of them, rosters are locked. This prevents last‑minute swaps and ensures stability for players, teams, and fans.
Krafton India has made it clear that any team not following the rules will be barred from participating in official or third‑party tournaments.
Leaderboards and Compliance
To ensure accountability, Krafton India will also roll out a live leaderboard system that tracks team performance and compliance with transfer regulations. According to Pathak, this ranking system has been in development for months and has already undergone testing.
“The world rankings actually meant something. It was a test which was live, and yes, your rankings are correct on the website even for the transfer windows,” he explained.
This system isn’t just for the top teams you and I might recognize. Pathak pointed out that the BGMI ecosystem involves 300,000 to 400,000 teams, making it far more complex than it appears from the outside. Managing roster stability at this scale requires strict enforcement and transparent processes.
Why This Matters for Fans and Teams
For fans, the introduction of transfer seasons means a more organized and predictable competitive calendar. You’ll know when roster moves are happening, and tournaments will feel more structured. For teams and sponsors, it brings stability and professionalism, reducing uncertainty around last‑minute roster changes.
Krafton has promised that more details will be shared soon, including eligibility, processes, and disciplinary measures.
