Lies of P and its new DLC, Lies of P: Overture, have surpassed a combined 3 million sales across all platforms.
This milestone includes both digital and physical sales across PC and consoles, marking a significant commercial success for the Soulslike title developed by Round8 Studio and published by Neowiz. While it had previously been reported that over 7 million players had experienced the game, much of that figure was attributed to the title’s availability on Xbox Game Pass, where it was accessible from day one. Now, with 3 million actual unit sales confirmed, the game's financial success is much clearer.
To commemorate this achievement, Neowiz is rewarding its developers in a pretty generous way. As per the Korean media (via VGC), all employees involved in the development of Lies of P—including those at both Neowiz and Round8 Studio—will be given a bonus of 10 million Korean won (around $7,300). The bonus was initially scheduled for a later date, but given the game's performance, the company opted to deliver it ahead of time.
That’s not all. Developers will also enjoy two full weeks of paid vacation, on top of the standard 15 days of mandatory leave in South Korea. And perhaps the most fun bonus of all? Every member of the Round8 development team will receive the latest Nintendo Switch 2 console.
The game’s latest DLC, Lies of P: Overture, launched on June 6, 2025, during Summer Game Fest. Unlike many DLCs that serve as mere add-ons, Overture acts as a narrative prequel to the original game. It also introduces a notable shift for the Soulslike genre, offering players the option to tweak difficulty settings—something that’s often avoided in traditional Soulslike design.
However, not everything went perfectly at launch. Just days after the Overture DLC dropped, the developers pushed out a patch to rebalance several parts of the content. This came after player feedback highlighted concerns about certain monster encounters being overly difficult. The patch aimed to reduce the spike in difficulty while maintaining the game’s signature challenge.
Neowiz also confirmed that a full sequel to Lies of P is currently in development. In the meantime, Overture serves as a solid bridge between the original and what’s to come, giving fans more lore and gameplay to sink their teeth into. The post-credits scene in the base game hinted at a broader universe, teasing a character named Dorothy and referencing The Wizard of Oz. This has led to speculation that the sequel might explore a darker, Soulslike take on Oz. No release date has been announced yet, but the devs have made it clear that the sequel is a top priority now.
Released on September 19, 2023, Lies of P is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC (via Steam and Microsoft Store), and even on Mac via the Mac App Store. The game sold over 1 million copies within its first month, with more than 90% of its sales coming from outside South Korea, according to Neowiz.
Inspired by the classic story of Pinocchio, Lies of P is set in the dark, Belle Époque-inspired city of Krat. The player takes on the role of a puppet fighting through chaos in a plague-ridden city, on a quest to become human. The game blends brutal combat with rich storytelling, deep character customization, and an intriguing moral system where lying plays a central role in shaping the narrative.
