Lies of P: Overture Adds Difficulty Options and Boss Rush Mode in Major Free Update

Lies of P Overture expansion

The upcoming Lies of P: Overture expansion will introduce multiple difficulty settings to make the challenging souls-like game more accessible to different types of players.

Developer Neowiz announced that the expansion will feature two new difficulty options alongside the original challenging mode.

The easier settings, called "Butterfly's Guidance" and "Awakened Puppet," are designed to provide a more story-focused experience with reduced difficulty.

Meanwhile, the original punishing difficulty level will now be renamed "Legendary Stalker."

Game director Jiwon Choi explained that this decision came directly from player feedback. "We wanted to make sure a wider audience of players could play the game," Choi told VGC. He confirmed that the development team received substantial feedback from both customers and their own developers requesting these changes.

The addition of difficulty options represents a significant shift for the souls-like, where most games traditionally maintain a single, challenging difficulty level. This approach has been a hallmark of games from FromSoftware, the creators of Dark Souls and Elden Ring. However, Neowiz believes that offering different difficulty levels will help broaden their player base without compromising the core experience.

New Game Modes Coming

According to reports by TechRadar, the Overture DLC will also introduce a boss rush mode called "Battle Memories." This feature allows players to fight against bosses they have previously defeated in both the base game and the expansion.

The mode includes five different difficulty tiers, with the first 3 available immediately and the remaining two unlocking after completing the earlier levels.

Additionally, a "Death March" mode will challenge experienced players to face 3 consecutive bosses with limited health and items. This feature caters to players seeking an even greater challenge than the standard game provides.

While Lies of P: Overture does not yet have a confirmed release date, the difficulty options and new game modes will be available as a free update alongside the DLC launch.
