India's LightFury Games Unveils AAA Sports Game E-Cricket at GDC 2025

E-Cricket

Indian game studio LightFury Games revealed its new AAA cricket game called "E-Cricket" at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. The game aims to combine high-quality graphics with accessible gameplay that works on almost any device with a web browser.

E-Cricket represents a significant milestone for India's growing game development industry. Built using Unreal Engine 5 and powered by Amazon Web Services technology, the game will allow players to enjoy premium gaming experiences without needing expensive gaming hardware.

"We've announced the release of a blockbuster AAA E-Cricket game—made in India, for India and the world," said Karan Shroff, CEO and co-founder of LightFury Games.

According to the announcement, E-Cricket will offer multiplayer modes, live tournaments, and innovative gameplay features designed to appeal to both serious esports competitors and casual cricket fans worldwide.

The technology behind E-Cricket is particularly noteworthy. As per the details shared at GDC, Amazon GameLift Streams enables the game to run at 1080p resolution with 60 frames per second across various devices including computers, phones, tablets, and smart TVs.

"Amazon GameLift Streams is going to revolutionize mobile gaming in India - the world's second-largest mobile market. By delivering high-fidelity visuals on mobile devices through any web browser, this technology makes premium gaming more accessible and affordable," explained Anurag Banerjee, CPTO and co-founder of LightFury Games.

Founded in 2024, LightFury Games claimed itself as "India's premier AAA-focused game-tech studio." The company is led by industry veterans with experience working on more than 40 major game titles. Their leadership team includes talent from well-known game companies like Ubisoft, Electronic Arts, and Improbable.

The studio has secured $8.5 million in seed funding from investors including Blume Ventures, MIXI Global Investments Inc., Krafton, Gemba Capital, and Java Capital.

The game's monetization strategy focuses on in-app purchases and cosmetic upgrades like stadium enhancements rather than advertisements.

Community response to E-Cricket's teaser has been largely positive, with social media posts praising its next-generation approach. Some users have questioned whether it can compete with established sports game franchises, but many see it as an important step forward for Indian game development.

E-Cricket is scheduled for global release in early 2026.
