Wizards of the Coast and Square Enix have announced an exciting collaboration bringing the world of Final Fantasy to Magic: The Gathering.
The special card set will launch globally on June 13, 2025, giving fans of both franchises something big to look forward to.
The collection features characters, monsters, locations, and themes from all 16 mainline Final Fantasy games.
Players will find over 100 legendary creature cards, including beloved characters like Cloud Strife, Sephiroth, Yuna, Tifa, Lightning, and Emet-Selch.
Many cards will have special borderless versions, making them extra special for collectors.
The set will include new gameplay mechanics inspired by Final Fantasy. One exciting feature is the "Job Select" system, which allows players to create hero tokens that can be equipped with special equipment cards.
The collection also introduces "Saga Creatures" for the first time ever in Magic: The Gathering, bringing iconic summons like Bahamut, Shiva, and Leviathan to the game with unique abilities.
The set boasts "the largest collection of Final Fantasy artwork ever in a single game," with contributions from famous artists including Yoshitaka Amano and Tetsuya Nomura.
During the reveal at PAX East convention, Amano shared his excitement about merging Final Fantasy's visual legacy with Magic's gameplay systems.
The collection will be released with four different Commander decks, each highlighting unique stories and moments from specific Final Fantasy games. These decks focus on Final Fantasy 6, Final Fantasy 7, Final Fantasy 10, and Final Fantasy 14. As mentioned in the showcase, three Secret Lair drops will also accompany the main release.
Preorders are now available through local game stores, online retailers, and MTG Arena. Products available for preorder include Play Boosters, Collector Boosters, Commander decks, Collector's Edition Commander decks, Bundles, and Gift Edition Bundles.
