Marvel Rivals Director Hints at Possibility of Original Characters in Future Updates

Marvel Rivals may eventually introduce original characters designed exclusively for the game, as hinted by the development team.

This revelation surfaced during the Marvel Rivals Ignite tournament in Guangzhou, China, where NetEase suggested plans to expand beyond Marvel’s current roster.

In an interview with MP1st, Marvel Rivals game director Guangguang was asked whether the studio had the freedom to design new characters that might even make their way into the wider Marvel universe. His response was straightforward: “Yes, we are allowed to introduce original characters in Marvel Rivals.” When pressed on whether anything is actively in development, Guangguang didn’t reveal details, instead simply telling fans to “stay tuned.”

This statement has sparked plenty of curiosity, as NetEase already has access to Marvel’s massive catalog of heroes and villains. Introducing completely new faces would not only diversify gameplay but also give Marvel Rivals a unique identity among other Marvel projects. However, as reports have pointed out, the team may first focus on bringing more established favorites before taking the leap into original character creation.

Aside from the character discussion, NetEase also confirmed that measures are being taken to prevent further leaks surrounding the game, though the company has kept quiet about what those steps actually involve.
