Konami has confirmed that while Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is set to launch on August 28, 2025, its much-anticipated multiplayer mode, Fox Hunt, will not be available on release day. Instead, players will have to wait until fall 2025 for the online experience, which will arrive as a free update for everyone who owns the base game.
According to details shared on the game’s official X account, Fox Hunt is an entirely new mode designed specifically for the remake, not a revival of Metal Gear Online. The concept centers around smaller-scale, “cat-and-mouse” stealth matches in dense jungle environments, staying true to the series’ espionage roots. Rather than leaning on traditional shooter mechanics, the mode will focus on tactical movement, survival, and strategy.

While Konami hasn’t given a specific reason for the delay, the decision isn’t surprising. As per multiple reports, Metal Gear Solid Delta has undergone a full rebuild in Unreal Engine 5, featuring overhauled visuals, modern controls, and new motion capture work. Postponing the multiplayer launch likely gives developers the extra time needed to ensure a polished experience, avoiding the technical hiccups that have hurt other online game rollouts.
Update: Fox Hunt will not feature cross-play, according to a confirmation from the official Metal Gear Japan X account.
The single-player campaign — a complete reimagining of the classic Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater — will still be available on August 28 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. This mode remains the main selling point at launch, offering a cinematic stealth adventure that has been praised as one of gaming’s greatest narratives.
