Konami has officially unveiled the PC system requirements for Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater, but what truly caught fans off guard is the game’s enormous file size. According to its updated Steam listing, players will need at least 100GB of storage space, whether they’re meeting minimum or recommended specs. And that detail alone has sparked a heated mix of confusion, criticism, and reluctant acceptance across social media and forums.
This isn’t just any game—it’s a full remake of the classic 2004 title Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, originally directed by Hideo Kojima. While the original came in at around 8GB, the remake is being rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5, promising stunning next-gen visuals, 3D audio, reimagined environments, and deep environmental interaction. So in many ways, the jump in file size reflects the scale of this reimagining. But for fans, especially those comparing it to the original or even the Master Collection’s 14.77GB version, the number still feels jarring.
As per the official listing, here are the key PC system requirements:
Minimum Specs:
OS: Windows 10, Windows 11 (64-bit OS required)
Processor: Intel i5-8600 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600
Memory: 16 GB RAM
Graphics: RTX 2060 Super (8GB)
DirectX: Version 12
Storage: 100 GB available space
Additional Notes: SSD Recommend
Recommended Specs:
OS: Windows 10, Windows 11 (64-bit OS required)
Processor: Intel i7-8700K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600
Memory: 16 GB RAM
Graphics: RTX 3080
DirectX: Version 12
Storage: 100 GB available space
Additional Notes: SSD Recommend
The PC version will launch alongside its console counterparts on August 28, 2025, available for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Why Is It So Big?
According to reports, the game’s storage footprint may be attributed to high-resolution textures (possibly 4096x4096), new character models, expanded cutscenes, and a more detailed jungle environment. Fans have also speculated that the inclusion of modern features and mechanics from Metal Gear Solid V, such as improved AI and physics, may also be contributing factors.
On Reddit and Twitter, reactions were mixed:
Shock and sarcasm poured in from users as one wrote, “How the hell is a remake of a PS2 game 100GB? This is just getting ridiculous.”
Others tried to rationalize the size. “Because it’s a remake, not a remaster.” Meanwhile, others explained that with 64x more detailed textures, the file size jump makes sense mathematically.
Still, some players expressed skepticism about the visual payoff. One Redditor argued, “Most people don’t even play on 4K displays. These texture sizes are overkill.”
While Konami has yet to comment on the file size discourse, it’s clear that Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is shaping up to be more than just a facelift. It’s an ambitious remake aiming to introduce a new generation to the origins of Big Boss, while delivering a modern stealth-survival experience for veterans.
Whether the 100GB requirement is justified or not will ultimately depend on how well it all comes together at launch.
For those looking to get more out of their experience, Konami is offering a Digital Deluxe Edition, which includes early access and a bonus Sneaking DLC Pack.
