Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection Brings 20 Classic MK Games to Modern Platforms

Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection

Digital Eclipse and NetherRealm Studios have officially announced Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection, a massive compilation of classic Mortal Kombat titles, during the June 2025 PlayStation State of Play.

The collection celebrates the franchise’s roots by bringing over 20 retro versions of Mortal Kombat games to modern platforms with new features, online multiplayer, and exclusive behind-the-scenes content.

Set to launch in 2025, Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection will be available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam.

What Games Are Included in Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection?

So far, eight games have been confirmed, covering arcade classics, console ports, and handheld versions. Here's the full list:

  • Mortal Kombat (1992) – Arcade, SNES, Genesis, Game Boy, Game Gear

  • Mortal Kombat II (1993) – Arcade, SNES, Genesis, Game Boy, Sega 32X

  • Mortal Kombat 3 (1995) – Arcade, SNES, Genesis

  • Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (1995) – Arcade, SNES

  • Mortal Kombat 4 (1997) – Arcade

  • Mortal Kombat Advance (2001) – Game Boy Advance

  • Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance (2002) – Game Boy Advance

  • Mortal Kombat: Tournament Edition (2003) – Game Boy Advance

Digital Eclipse has confirmed that additional titles will be included, with several still under wraps. The final package will offer over 20 versions from the franchise’s early years, including rare entries from platforms like Sega 32X and Game Gear.

New Features: Rollback Netcode and Interactive Documentary

All included games will support online multiplayer with rollback netcode, ensuring smooth and competitive online experiences.

In true Digital Eclipse fashion, the Kollection will feature an interactive documentary mode, spotlighting the franchise's development history. Players will have access to:

  • Exclusive interviews with creators like Ed Boon, John Tobias, Dan Forden, and John Vogel

  • Rare concept art, vintage marketing materials, and archival footage

  • Insights into how Mortal Kombat changed the gaming landscape and sparked cultural debates in the ‘90s

Digital Eclipse’s documentary-style presentation, similar to what it brought to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection, makes this release more than just a game—it’s a preservation effort.

A Timely Revival for the Franchise

The Legacy Kollection arrives as the Mortal Kombat franchise reflects on over 30 years of fighting game history. As Mortal Kombat 1 has been confirmed to receive no further DLC updates, this collection will surely delight long-time fans of the series.

While no specific release date has been announced, Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection is confirmed for release later in 2025. It will be available across all major platforms, and Digital Eclipse encourages fans to wishlist the game on their storefront of choice.
