Netflix’s growing interest in video games has taken another step as the streaming giant is now seeking a Director of Generative AI for Games.

According to the official job posting, Netflix is seeking a “visionary and pragmatic Head of Gen AI” to lead strategy and implementation across its games division.
The position is described as sitting “at the intersection of technology, product, and creativity,” with the goal of shaping how generative AI can be used to create “meaningful, novel, and scalable experiences for players.”
Candidates are expected to bring at least a decade of industry experience, with a comprehensive understanding of the full game development lifecycle, from concept through live operations.
The director will work closely with Netflix’s internal studios, platform teams, and leadership to determine not only how AI can be integrated into games, but also when it adds genuine value to the player experience.
In exchange, Netflix is offering a salary between $430,000 and $840,000 per year, along with a comprehensive benefits package.
That’s a massive sum, even by tech industry standards, and it’s raised some eyebrows, especially during a time when layoffs continue to ripple across gaming. Netflix itself wasn’t immune, having cut staff earlier this year at Night School Studio, the developer of Oxenfree and Oxenfree II: Lost Signals.
Netflix’s Bumpy Road into Gaming
While Netflix’s interest in gaming isn’t new, its success so far has been mixed. The company first entered the space seriously in 2021, hiring Mike Verdu, a former EA and Facebook executive, as its Vice President of Game Development. A year later, Netflix established its first in-house studio, only for it to close before ever announcing a game.
Verdu later transitioned to the title of VP of GenAI for Games, but left the company after just a few months. Now, Netflix seems ready to restart the initiative this time with a fresh title and, perhaps, a clearer direction.
