While there’s been no official announcement yet, MP1st's sources claim the game—codenamed “Rec”—has been in development since 2023 and is set in Hollywood.

Fans of the series will be happy to hear that Frank West, the original protagonist from the 2006 game, is reportedly making a comeback. This detail alone has sparked speculation that the new title may act as a direct sequel to the first Dead Rising, though sources haven’t confirmed that outright.

Alongside Frank, familiar faces like Isabela Keyes and the franchise’s infamous Psychopaths are also expected to return.

The reported setting—a massive movie studio lot in Hollywood—ties directly into the game’s new villain. According to sources, players will face off against an extravagant and deranged film director who forces Frank and other survivors into deadly trials, all in pursuit of creating his “perfect movie.”

Gameplay-wise, fans can expect the return of two signature mechanics:

  • Frank’s camera, allowing players to snap photos of the chaos.

  • The time limit system, which adds urgency to missions and survival.

There are also hints that the rescuing survivors mechanic could return, though it’s unclear how prominent it will be this time. Survivors reportedly include actors trapped in the outbreak, with one storyline focusing on a girl searching for her sister.

Unfortunately, there’s no confirmed release date yet. Given Capcom’s development cycles for other rumored projects—like the reported Resident Evil 0 Remake—this Dead Rising entry may still be a long way off.
