At San Diego Comic-Con 2025, Horror Inc. officially confirmed that both a new sequel movie and a new video game in the Friday the 13th franchise are currently in development.
This announcement was made by Robbie Barsamian, Vice President of Horror Inc., during a panel presentation that also included the debut teaser for Sweet Revenge — the first film in the Jason Universe in over 15 years.
Sweet Revenge is set to hit theaters on August 13, 2025, giving longtime fans their first cinematic dose of Jason Voorhees since 2009. But the bigger surprise? A brand-new Friday the 13th game is officially on the way — though, at this stage, details are being kept tightly under wraps.
Barsamian, speaking at the panel, stated:
“A new seqel movie and new sequel game are at the top of our list. It’s where most of our energy is going right now. And I can tell you finally we’re in a position to deliver on that. While we’re not officially announcing anything with our partners today, both are coming. They’re both in the works and they’re both coming.”
This marks a significant shift in the franchise’s recent history. As fans may recall, the previous Friday the 13th: The Game, developed by IllFonic, was shut down last year following server closures and company layoffs. Despite its Dead by Daylight-style gameplay and strong horror vibe, the game was eventually delisted due to ongoing licensing issues and lack of support.
As per reports by Bloody Disgusting, the response from Comic-Con attendees was enthusiastic, with the panel room erupting in cheers as the news broke.
With horror icons like Hellraiser recently returning to the spotlight in video game form, hopes are high that Jason’s next outing will be something more than just a multiplayer survival title. Many are speculating that the new game could lean toward a single-player, narrative-driven experience — one filled with tension, survival horror, and of course, plenty of blood.
Whether you're a die-hard slasher fan or just enjoy a good scare, this new chapter in the Jason Universe could be worth the long wait.
What are you hoping to see in the new Friday the 13th game — more scares, story, or survival? Let us know in the comments!
