Nintendo has officially confirmed that it has sold over 860 million consoles and more than 5.9 billion games worldwide.

These numbers were revealed in a press release for the “My Mario” product series, where the impressive figures appeared in the “About Nintendo” section.

Since the launch of the Family Computer (Famicom) in Japan back in 1983, Nintendo says it has focused on creating its own gaming systems and software. Over the decades, this has led to the birth of some of gaming’s most iconic franchises, including Mario, Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda, Pokémon, Metroid, Kirby, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, and Splatoon.

When it comes to hardware, the Nintendo DS remains the company’s top-selling platform at 154.02 million units shipped. The Nintendo Switch, however, is right behind with 153.10 million units and could soon take the crown, according to VGChartz. Other classics include the Game Boy with 118.69 million units and the Wii with 101.63 million. Even the new Nintendo Switch 2 has already crossed the 6 million mark since its launch.
