Nintendo has increased prices for the original Switch models — including Switch OLED, standard Switch, and Switch Lite — and select accessories in the United States, effective August 3, 2025.

The company stated the decision was made “based on market conditions,” and while Switch 2 prices remain untouched for now, Nintendo has warned that more hikes could be on the way — potentially affecting games and even Nintendo Switch Online memberships.

Retailers like Target have already rolled out the new prices. Below is a quick breakdown of the updated pricing:

This isn’t the first sign of shifting pricing. A similar increase rolled out in Canada last month, again attributed to “market conditions.” Industry experts suggest global trade tensions might be playing a role. Daniel Ahmad, Director at Niko Partners, cited U.S. tariffs — 20% on Vietnam, 30% on China, and 15% on Japan — as a possible reason, noting that Nintendo relies on all three countries for hardware and software production.

The price hike arrives shortly after Nintendo reported strong Q1 FY2026 earnings. The newly launched Switch 2 has already sold over 6 million units in just seven weeks, giving the company a major boost in revenue. Yet, the original Switch continues to thrive, with over 100 million annual users still actively engaged between July 2024 and June 2025.
