NVIDIA Brings Full Mafia Franchise

NVIDIA has announced that the complete Mafia video game series is coming to its GeForce NOW cloud gaming service.

This includes all the original games, their remastered versions, and the upcoming new title "Mafia: The Old Country," which will be available on GeForce NOW when it launches on August 8.

This week's GeForce NOW update brings five Mafia titles to the platform: the original Mafia, Mafia II (Classic), and the Definitive Editions of Mafia, Mafia II, and Mafia III.

Players who own these games on Steam or Epic Games Store can now stream them through NVIDIA's cloud service.

The Mafia series has been a cornerstone of crime-themed action-adventure games since the first title debuted in 2002. Each game in the franchise offers players the chance to experience different eras of organized crime in America, from the Prohibition era of the 1930s to the tumultuous late 1960s.

The original Mafia, set in the fictional city of Lost Heaven during the 1930s, follows taxi driver Tommy Angelo's unexpected entry into the world of organized crime. Players experience his rise within the Salieri crime family through a story-driven campaign that combines third-person shooting with driving segments. What set the original Mafia apart from contemporaries like Grand Theft Auto III was its focus on historical authenticity and cinematic storytelling.

Mafia II, released in 2010, shifted the setting to Empire Bay, a fictional city inspired by New York and other American urban centers. The story spans from 1945 to 1951, following war veteran Vito Scaletta as he becomes involved with the mob to help his family settle debts. The game maintained the series' focus on narrative depth while updating the gameplay for a new generation of consoles.

The Definitive Editions, released in 2020, brought significant improvements to these classics. Mafia: Definitive Edition was a complete remake of the original game with expanded story elements, modernized gameplay mechanics, and dramatically improved visuals built from the ground up. Mafia II: Definitive Edition enhanced the second game with remastered graphics and included all previously released DLC content. Both titles received praise for preserving the essence of the originals while making them more accessible to modern players.

Mafia III: Definitive Edition is also joining the GeForce NOW library. Set in 1968 in the fictional city of New Bordeaux (inspired by New Orleans), this entry follows Vietnam veteran Lincoln Clay's quest for revenge against the Italian mob after they betray his family. This installment featured a more expansive open world with empire-building mechanics, allowing players to take control of districts and manage criminal operations.

The most exciting part of NVIDIA's announcement is the confirmation that the upcoming "Mafia: The Old Country" will be available on GeForce NOW at launch. This new prequel takes the series back to its roots, both narratively and in terms of gameplay approach. Set in Sicily in 1905, the game will explore the origins of organized crime through the story of Enzo Favara, who rises from harsh beginnings working in sulfur mines to become part of the Torrisi crime family.

"Mafia: The Old Country" represents a return to the more linear, narrative-focused design of the first two games, emphasizing cinematic storytelling over the open-world approach of Mafia III. Developed by Hangar 13 and powered by Unreal Engine 5, the game promises photorealistic visuals and detailed Sicilian landscapes. As per 2K, authenticity extends to the voice acting, with fully localized Sicilian audio alongside other language options.

The gameplay will feature period-authentic weapons like stiletto blades and lupara shotguns, with an emphasis on stealth and visceral combat. Players will navigate the criminal underworld on horseback or in early automobiles during the dawn of the automotive age.

This comprehensive addition to GeForce NOW allows subscribers to experience the entire narrative arc of the Mafia series, from its Sicilian origins in the upcoming prequel to its American evolution across three decades of organized crime history. For fans of the franchise who own these games on Steam or Epic Games Store, this means they can now enjoy them on virtually any device through cloud streaming.

Mafia: The Old Country is scheduled for release on August 8, 2025, priced at $50, and will be available on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
