Blizzard is rolling out its next major collaboration for Overwatch 2, bringing the iconic G.I. Joe universe into the game starting July 1. The event will feature 5 new character skins, free in-game rewards, and a limited-time set of challenges, all designed to blend the military-themed world of G.I. Joe with Overwatch’s unique hero roster.
Blizzard made the official announcement on June 25, describing the event with a strong thematic tone: “The battle lines are drawn. Conflict is no longer a question of if or when, but who you fight for.”
Release Timeline and Event Duration
The Overwatch 2 x G.I. Joe crossover kicks off on Tuesday, July 1, and runs through Monday, July 14. That gives players two weeks to complete the special ops-style challenges and unlock various cosmetic rewards.
Skins Coming in the Crossover
Five Legendary-tier skins are featured in the crossover:
Genji as Snake Eyes – A stealthy, elite ninja/special ops fighter.
Freja as Scarlett – A strategic spy with strong counterintelligence skills.
Widowmaker as Baroness – The classic villainess reimagined with deadly elegance.
Reaper as Cobra Commander – The iconic Cobra leader, now even more menacing.
Doomfist as Destro – Heavy-hitter with a metallic edge and ruthless tactics.

Players can purchase each skin individually or get the full G.I. Joe Mega Bundle, which is expected to offer better overall value. While exact prices haven't been confirmed, based on past Legendary skins, each may cost between 1,000 to 1,900 Overwatch Coins (roughly $10 to $20 USD).
How to Access the Skins
The bundle and individual skins will be available in the in-game shop. Once bought, they’ll appear in your inventory and can be equipped from the Hero customization menu.
Free Rewards and In-Game Challenges
For those who don’t want to spend money, Blizzard has included a set of in-game challenges that offer free rewards such as:
Unique voice lines
Themed sprays
A weapon charm
A G.I. Joe player title
Up to 25,000 Battle Pass XP
Challenges can be completed across multiple game modes, including Competitive, Quick Play, and the recently introduced Stadium Mode.
Why This Collab Matters
Collaborations like this continue to play a key role in Overwatch 2’s efforts to keep the game fresh. Following partnerships with franchises like Gundam, Street Fighter, and Transformers, this G.I. Joe crossover targets both longtime fans of the action figure series and younger players who enjoy military-themed aesthetics.
This collaboration also comes on the heels of Overwatch 2’s Season 17 launch, which introduced a new Flashpoint map (Aatlis), two new Stadium maps, and made Junkrat, Sigma, and Zen playable characters in the Stadium mode.
