The latest Palworld update, titled Tides of Terraria (v0.6.0), is now live, and it’s one of the most significant updates to the game since its early access debut in 2024. This patch doesn’t just deliver the much-anticipated Terraria crossover — it also introduces a raft of gameplay changes, new features, and quality-of-life improvements.
At the heart of this update is the Terraria collaboration, bringing in a brand-new dungeon filled with enemies inspired by Re-Logic’s popular sandbox game. Players can now explore this unique dungeon, collect special materials, and craft 6 new weapons and 7 armor pieces themed around Terraria. The highlight, however, is the Moon Lord — the infamous Terraria boss — who now appears in Palworld as a formidable raid encounter.
While the crossover is a major draw, there's a lot more packed into version 0.6.0. One of the headline features is the introduction of fishing, allowing players to craft rods and bait and catch aquatic Pals. Alongside that, the salvage system lets players ride water-based Pals and retrieve materials from the ocean floor.
For explorers, three new island types — Tropical Islands, Iceberg Island, and Shipwreck Island — open up additional terrain and Pal discovery. Plus, players can now undertake missions around the Palpagos Islands, including a special mission involving the character Zoe, who can eventually be recruited.
Another new mechanic, the Pal Trust system, strengthens bonds with your companions over time. The more you work and fight alongside a Pal, the higher their stats grow — giving even weaker Pals a chance to shine. For immersion fans, there's even an option to sleep alongside your Pals for that cozy post-adventure rest.
Base-building also got a hefty upgrade. The settlement system has been overhauled to feel more alive, with new buildings like the Pal Surgery Table (for altering Pal traits, even gender), Large Incubator (for hatching multiple eggs), and Fishing Pond now available. A sleek, futuristic Clean building set has been added as well, allowing for aesthetic upgrades.
Combat systems haven't been left behind. Several new weapons — including the Charge Rifle and Energy Shotgun — add more firepower, while support items like the Pal Recovery Grenade cater to tamers looking to help their Pals mid-battle. A new Turbulence mechanic has also been introduced, letting players ride wind currents for high jumps.
In addition, the Arena mode has seen a revamp. Players can now participate in single-player challenges, earn ranks, set custom rules, and use a shared Pal Box for battles. A spectator feature in multiplayer now lets friends watch your fights in real time.
From a performance and quality-of-life perspective, the update introduces bulk storage options, refined UI for Pal management, and a slew of bug fixes. There are also several balance changes affecting enemy AI, Pal stats, bounty hunter variety, and loot probabilities.
New skills across water, grass, and ice types, along with passive abilities and exclusive Pals skins — like Crown Chillet, Cyber Jetragon, and Desert King Anubis — give long-time players more to experiment with. Notably, Pals can now swim with updated animations and enhanced water mobility.
All of this comes while developer Pocketpair continues to navigate legal issues. As per previous reports, changes in recent patches — including design tweaks — were influenced by the ongoing patent lawsuit filed by Nintendo and The Pokémon Company. Instead of pursuing a copyright claim, the companies allege Palworld infringes on specific patents and are seeking monetary compensation and an injunction.
Despite the legal turbulence, Palworld continues to thrive. After a record-shattering launch via Steam and Xbox Game Pass, the game made its way to PlayStation 5, with dedicated servers now supported. Pocketpair even formed Palworld Entertainment with Sony to expand the IP into other formats — showing no signs of slowing down.
It's interesting to see how the latest update has boosted engagement among Palworld players. The last major update, Feybreak in December 2024, was a massive win for Palworld. It didn’t just add content—it quadrupled the player base, pushing the game back into Steam’s top 10. Lately, there have been around 25,000 to 30,000 players in the game, and since the new update, the player peak has reached up to 50,000 after a long time, as per SteamDB.
