Indie climbing game Peak has officially crossed 10 million copies sold, as confirmed during Gamescom Opening Night Live by host Geoff Keighley.

This makes Peak the second indie release this year to hit such a milestone, following the success of R.E.P.O., which has sold 16.8 million copies according to Aliena Analytics analyst Rhys Elliott.

On Steam, the game has been a regular in the “most played” charts. In the last 24 hours, it has peaked at around 90,000 concurrent players, as per SteamDB data.

Things really took off last week when the game went on sale, dropping from $7.99 to $4.95, and also rolled out its new Mesa update. The combo pushed Peak to 171,000 concurrent users in a single day and 1.3 million unique players on Sunday alone, based on Alinea’s numbers.

So, what exactly is Peak? At its core, it’s a co-op survival climbing game where up to four players attempt to scale massive mountains while battling fatigue, stamina limits, and environmental hazards. The gameplay is simple to pick up but full of tense, “just one more try” moments that keep players hooked. That mix of accessibility and challenge is a big reason for its surge in popularity.

Of course, with success comes imitators. Peak’s sudden fame has already spawned a wave of Roblox knock-offs, which Aggro Crab hasn’t taken kindly to. In fact, the studio cheekily posted on social media that it would “rather players pirate Peak than touch a microtransaction-riddled Roblox slop ripoff.”

Between its affordable price, word-of-mouth buzz, and addictive gameplay loop, Peak has managed to climb far higher than anyone expected. And judging by its momentum, this is just the beginning of Aggro Crab’s biggest adventure yet.
