Pearl Abyss has confirmed that Crimson Desert is heading to Nintendo Switch 2, and the company has also opened the door to multiplayer modes for the game somewhere down the line.

The update came as part of Pearl Abyss's Q2 2026 earnings letter, which laid out the developer's financial results along with a detailed roadmap for its flagship title. The letter also touched on DLC plans, a franchise strategy, and even confirmed a release window for DokeV, the studio's long awaited creature adventure game.

What did Pearl Abyss say about the Switch 2 version?

Platform expansion has been on the cards for a while, and Pearl Abyss finally gave fans something concrete to hold onto. According to the earnings letter, Crimson Desert is currently playable on Switch 2 at a foundational level, though further optimization work is still underway.

"We are striving to make Crimson Desert available across as many platforms as possible. However, platform expansion is not merely a straightforward port; the key requirement is ensuring that the game's graphics, combat action, and seamless open-world experience are fully preserved on each target device."

As for timing, Pearl Abyss is targeting the first half of 2027 for the Switch 2 launch, though it stopped short of locking in an exact date. A mobile version remains off the table for now, with no immediate plans in that direction.

Could Crimson Desert get multiplayer?

This is where things get interesting. Crimson Desert launched as a single player open world game, but Pearl Abyss has previously made its name on MMOs like Black Desert, and that background seems to be shaping its ambitions.

"Given Crimson Desert's dynamic action combat and expansive open-world structure, there is significant potential for expansion into multiplayer modes. However, integrating multiplayer functionality is far more complex than simply adding a new game mode; it represents a major technical initiative that requires comprehensive evaluation of server architecture, game balance, cross-platform stability, and live service operation models."

Pearl Abyss added that it is still in the "research phase" and did not commit to a timeline.

Crimson Desert Sales and DLC plans

Crimson Desert has continued to perform well since its March 19 launch. Here is a quick breakdown of the numbers Pearl Abyss shared for the second quarter of 2026:

  • Copies sold in Q2 2026: 2.11 million

  • Digital sales: 1.72 million copies, 82 % of the total

  • Physical sales: 0.39 million copies, 18 % of the total

  • Revenue generated in Q2 2026: KRW 136.1 billion ($96.3 million)

  • Combined sales since launch: 6+ million

  • Combined revenue since launch: KRW 402.6 billion ($282 million)

The first DLC for Crimson Desert is already in development, with full details on pricing, content, and release timing expected during Q3 2026. Pearl Abyss has not committed to a total number of DLC releases yet, saying its focus right now is on getting the first one right.

Pearl Abyss also made it clear that Crimson Desert is not meant to be a one-and-done release. "Crimson Desert is not a one-off title, but a core flagship IP of our company designed for long-term growth and expansion."

The earnings letter also revealed that Pearl Abyss handed out substantial bonuses to its staff following the game's commercial success. Labor expenses jumped 94.8% quarter over quarter to KRW 74.8 billion, a move the company attributed directly to "performance-based" payouts across its workforce of 1,035 employees.

What about DokeV?

Alongside the Crimson Desert updates, Pearl Abyss confirmed that DokeV, its creature focused action adventure game, is now targeting a release in the second half of 2028. The studio said development is "progressing smoothly," crediting the technical experience gained while building Crimson Desert.

Full-scale marketing for DokeV, including hands-on demos, is expected to begin around the second half of 2027, giving fans a clearer sense of when they can expect to see more of the game in action.
