Phasmophobia Crosses Another Major Sales Milestone

Kinetic Games' co-op horror title Phasmophobia has officially surpassed 25 million copies sold across all platforms, marking a major milestone for the indie hit that originally launched in early access back in 2020.

What’s especially notable here is that Phasmophobia has managed to reach this figure without flashy graphics or cutting-edge tech. The game built its reputation largely through word of mouth, streamer buzz, and consistently positive feedback from players. On Steam, it still holds an "Overwhelmingly Positive" rating, with 95% of users recommending it. And it’s not just legacy players keeping it alive — according to SteamDB, the game recently saw concurrent player counts peaking at over 46,000, boosted by a recent sale and fresh content drop.

The release of the console version in October 2024 gave Phasmophobia another surge. At that point, it had already hit 20 million sales on PC alone. Then, in April this year, Kinetic Games confirmed the game had sold 3 million units on consoles. So, it’s safe to estimate that 4–5 million of its total sales now come from PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Kinetic Games also rolled out a major content update at the end of June. Titled the Chronicle Update, it introduces new evidence-gathering mechanics like audio recordings, photographs, and video clips — a refreshing addition for long-time ghost hunters looking for a new thrill.

This update comes just as the game enters a Steam Summer Sale period, with a 25% discount running until July 10, pricing it at $14.99.

In addition to the game, Phasmophobia is set to make its way to the big screen. As per reports by Deadline, horror heavyweights Blumhouse and Atomic Monster — known for hits like M3GAN, The Black Phone, and Five Nights at Freddy’s — are teaming up for a movie adaptation. While no concrete details have been revealed yet regarding casting, directing, or a release date, the involvement of these studios alone has stirred up plenty of excitement in the fanbase.
