PlayStation Plus subscribers are getting a trio of standout games this May, with Ark: Survival Ascended, Balatro, and Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun joining the Essential tier starting May 6.
The lineup offers a bold mix of survival, strategy, and retro-styled chaos—all free for members to download through June 2.
Ark: Survival Ascended (PS5)
The Unreal Engine 5 remake of the fan-favorite survival game brings massive graphical upgrades, revamped mechanics, and all previous expansions in one package. Players can:
Tame and ride over 100 dinosaur species
Build elaborate bases
Form tribes
Play in 70-player online servers, private sessions, or local split-screen
Every major expansion—Scorched Earth, Aberration, Genesis, and more—is bundled in, offering the full Ark experience with next-gen polish.
Balatro (PS5, PS4)
One of the biggest indie surprises of 2024, Balatro fuses poker mechanics with roguelike deck-building. Create powerful hand combos using jokers, modifiers, and bonuses to climb increasingly tough levels. Highlights include:
Over 5 million copies sold already
91/100 on Metacritic
Praised by The Guardian as “possibly the best card game you'll ever come across”
Received a nomination at the Game Awards and won many GOTY at other shows, like one at GDC.
Also available on Xbox Game Pass (PC & Console both)
If you're into strategy, randomness, and addictive runs, Balatro is a must-play.
Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun (PS5, PS4)
For fans of old-school shooters, Boltgun delivers a bloody, fast-paced FPS inspired by 90s classics like DOOM. Take up the role of a Chainsword-wielding Space Marine and blast through daemons and heretics across gritty pixelated warzones. Features include:
Retro visuals, modern gunplay
Highly rated gunfeel and Warhammer lore
75/100 on Metacritic, with strong praise from fans
Important Dates
Available: May 6 – June 2
Last Chance for April Games: RoboCop: Rogue City, Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth are leaving on May 5—grab them while you can!
No Until Dawn (Yet)
Despite recent rumors and a fleeting appearance of the remake’s logo on the PlayStation Store, Until Dawn will not be part of May’s Essential tier lineup. There’s still hope it may land on the Extra or Premium tiers later in the month.
22 Games Leaving Extra/Premium
On May 20, PlayStation Plus will remove a hefty batch of 22 titles from the Extra and Premium libraries, including:
Grand Theft Auto V
Batman: Arkham Knight
Payday 2
inFAMOUS: Second Son
Make time to play these before they're gone.
