Until Dawn Remake Could Be a Free PlayStation Plus Game for May 2025, According to Leak

Playstation Plus Until Dawn Remake

A recent leak suggests that PlayStation Plus Essential subscribers might get access to the Until Dawn remake for PS5 in May 2025.

The information emerged when several Reddit users spotted the game's logo appearing under the "Monthly Games" icon on the PlayStation Store.

The timing aligns with the recent release of the Until Dawn movie on April 25, 2025, suggesting Sony may be using the game for cross-promotion. However, Sony has not officially confirmed this, and no other games for the May lineup have been leaked or announced.

The company typically reveals its monthly lineup of free games on the last Wednesday of each month, with the May 2025 announcement expected on April 30. These games would then become available to claim starting May 6, 2025.

Some gaming forums are also speculating about Death Stranding possibly joining the lineup, as Reddit users point out this would make sense with Death Stranding 2: On the Beach scheduled for release in June 2025. However, this remains purely speculative at this point.

The PlayStation Plus Essential tier usually includes three games each month, so subscribers can expect at least one or two more titles to round out the May offerings. These could include either another PS5 game or a PS4 title to ensure a variety of gaming experiences.

PlayStation Plus is Sony's subscription service that provides members with monthly free games, online multiplayer access, exclusive discounts, and other benefits depending on the subscription tier. The Essential tier is the base level that includes the monthly free games.

The Until Dawn remake was released on October 4, 2024, for PS5 and PC. Developed by Ballistic Moon and rebuilt using Unreal Engine 5, the new version reimagines the 2015 interactive horror classic originally created by Supermassive Games.

The remake aimed to modernize the slasher experience with improved visuals, refined controls, and updated narrative presentation—but received mixed reviews for its technical bugs, steep price ($60 at that time), and perceived lack of necessity, given the original’s cult status.

22 Games Leaving PS Plus Next Month

While the May additions are drawing attention, it’s also worth noting that 22 titles will be leaving PlayStation Plus next month. Among the most significant departures are:

  • Grand Theft Auto V

  • Payday 2: Crimewave Edition

  • Resistance: Fall of Man

  • Resistance 2

The exit of the Resistance titles is particularly notable, as this marks the last opportunity to play them on modern consoles—a loss that hasn't gone unnoticed by longtime fans of the PlayStation-exclusive FPS series.

Expect Sony’s official PS Plus Essential lineup reveal on April 30, 2025, which is tomorrow.
