Sony held its PlayStation State of Play on June 2, 2026, delivering a packed showcase that ran close to 80 minutes and featured gameplay reveals, release dates, and a few genuine surprises. The event kicked off with a look at Marvel's Wolverine and closed with the biggest reveal of the night: a brand new God of War game starring Faye, the wife of Kratos. Here is everything that was shown.

God of War Laufey: The Biggest Reveal of the Night
Santa Monica Studio pulled back the curtain on God of War Laufey, a new mainline entry in the iconic franchise. This time, the protagonist is not Kratos. It is Faye, his frost giant wife, known as Laufey the Just. The studio showed roughly 20 minutes of gameplay, and it made one thing very clear: this is not a side story. It is a full new chapter in the God of War universe.
The game begins at the exact moment Faye's body is burned on the funeral pyre at the start of the 2018 God of War. That act transports her to a realm called the Everywhen, described as the afterlife of the gods.
Deborah Ann Woll, known for her roles in True Blood and Daredevil, is reprising her role as Faye. The character brings a completely different combat style compared to Kratos. She is faster and more agile, drawing from both the Greek and Norse eras of the series.
The Everywhen itself sounds like an unsettling place. It is packed with gods from different mythologies, and none of them are happy to have a new arrival poking around. Two notable enemies shown were Sekhmet and Begtse. Begtse is the Mongolian god of war. Sekhmet comes from Egyptian mythology, a figure associated with plagues, vengeance, and devastation. She was created to punish humanity and nearly wiped them out entirely. They both appear to be major threats in the early game.
Faye also gets some interesting companions. She pulls a sword from a gelatinous cube named Phranque, voiced by Jack Quaid of The Boys. The sword comes with an enchanted ribbon guardian named Rue, voiced by Perlina Lau.
As for Kratos and Atreus, the game runs parallel to the timeline of the 2018 game and Ragnarok, and also has direct connections to everything.
No release date has been announced for God of War Laufey.
What Did Marvel's Wolverine Show?
The State of Play opened with Marvel's Wolverine from Insomniac Games, and it got right to the point. This is a violent game. Logan carves through enemies with his adamantium claws, building a rage meter as he tears through cybernetically enhanced foes known as the Reavers. Blood and body damage are prominent, and the studio leaned into that from the start.
The big moment in the trailer was the arrival of Jean Grey. She tears through enemies psychically while Logan handles things up close, and the two can combine for co-op finishing moves. That said, Insomniac confirmed the game remains a single-player experience. No co-op mode is planned. The trailer also teased a range of characters including Omega Red, Mystique, Sentinels, and Sabretooth.
Unlike Insomniac's open-world Spider-Man games, Marvel's Wolverine takes a linear, narrative-driven approach. It is built around combat and story rather than exploration. The game launches September 15, 2026 as a PS5 and PS5 Pro exclusive.
September Is About to Get Absolutely Packed
The State of Play made one thing very obvious: September is going to be an expensive month for PS5 owners. Several major releases were confirmed for that window, each competing for attention.
Control Resonant from Remedy Entertainment arrives September 24, 2026. This is the sequel to the 2019 original, and it shifts focus from Jesse Faden to her brother Dylan. According to Remedy, Dylan wakes from a coma into a world that has become unrecognizable. Jesse is gone, and he has to find her while battling The Hiss and confronting his own internal demons that literally manifest as enemies. The game is set in a warped version of Manhattan and is described as the largest project Remedy has ever undertaken.
Also landing on September 24 is Silent Hill: Townfall. This is a first-person entry in the Silent Hill series, and it is not set in the town of Silent Hill at all. Players take the role of Simon Ordell, who wakes up in a misty Scottish town called St. Amelia and has to uncover why he feels connected to it. The game leans heavily on analog technology, with Simon using a CRTV set that can tune to different frequencies, potentially unlocking puzzles or revealing hidden threats. The Deluxe Edition releases two days early, on September 22.
Dune: Awakening also hits PS5 on September 22. The big news here, as per the developers at Funcom, is that the console launch comes with a fully playable single-player mode. The PC version launched as a strict online MMO, which put off a lot of players. Starting in September, the entire game can be played solo or on private servers with fully adjustable difficulty and harvesting settings. The update also delivers the finale of Book One, closing out the main storyline as it currently stands.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword from Capcom drops on September 25, 2026 for PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC. The game follows Miyamoto Musashi after he gains the power of the Oni, set in Kyoto during the early Edo period. Combat is built around parrying, deflecting, and a signature critical attack called Issen. A free demo is available right now across all platforms, covering about 30 minutes of the early game.
What About October Releases?
October is not letting September have all the fun. Several notable titles arrive in that window as well.
Rayman Legends Retold launches on October 1 for PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X, and PC. Developed by Ubisoft Milan and Montpellier, this is a full remake of the beloved 2013 platformer built in Ubisoft's Snowdrop engine, the same technology behind Star Wars Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. The game adds a brand new sixth world to close out a revamped story, new 3D cutscenes, full voice acting, and a new feature called Dragon Rides: 3D shoot-'em-up levels between worlds where Rayman rides a dragon and blasts obstacles. There are also 55 minutes of new music, composed by original Rayman Legends composer Christophe Heral alongside Grant Kirkhope of Donkey Kong 64 and Banjo-Kazooie fame. According to Ubisoft, Retold is the beginning of a new era for Rayman, which suggests a brand new game could be in development.
Also arriving on October 1 is Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition Remastered, published by Koei Tecmo for PS5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, and PC via Steam. The remaster brings new combat mechanics including evasion, a Just Evasion counter system, Perfect Power Guard, and Weapon Fusion. New story scenarios are included, and the acclaimed offline two-player split-screen mode returns. Pre-orders are open now, with the Standard Edition priced at $39.99.
Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve follows on October 2, 2026. Bandai Namco's latest numbered entry in the flight shooter series is set in 2029 and sees the player, a fighter pilot, reclaim their lost homeland after the Federation of Central Usea is overrun by invading forces. Deluxe Edition buyers get three-day early access starting September 29. Pre-order bonuses include the playable F-14A aircraft and, notably, a Steam port of Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War, originally released for PS2 in 2006 and long considered one of the best in the series.
Moon Studios confirmed that No Rest for the Wicked will leave Early Access and launch in full version 1.0 for PS5 and PC in October. The 1.0 release adds over 60 hours of new content, a new horde mode, a completely reworked class system, 15 or more handcrafted regions, persistent multiplayer, and the final story arc. Cross-play and cross-save between PC and console will be supported at launch.
Phantom Blade Zero from Chinese developer S-Game arrives on October 29, though that date comes with a caveat. The game was originally set to release on September 9 but has been pushed back by approximately 50 days. The studio stated the delay is focused on polish and refinement rather than content additions. The action RPG is set in a Kung Fu Punk world and follows a protagonist named Soul who has been framed for murdering his master with only 66 days left to live.
Surprise Reveals Worth Talking About
Beyond the headliners, the State of Play had a few genuine surprises.
Stuntman: Hollywood from Saber Interactive was probably the most unexpected announcement of the evening. The stuntman series has been dormant for nearly two decades, and this new entry revives it with a fresh concept. Players perform stunts inspired by real Universal Pictures films and NBCUniversal TV shows, including Fast and Furious, Back to the Future, Knight Rider, Miami Vice, and Death Race. Players get to drive actual iconic vehicles like the DeLorean time machine from Back to the Future and KITT from Knight Rider. The game is structured around movie shoots, with each film divided into episodes that each feature unique vehicles and objectives. No release date has been announced. The game is available to wishlist now on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC.
Kemuri: Hunt the Unseen from Unseen Games, the studio founded by Ghostwire: Tokyo's Ikumi Nakamura, got its full gameplay reveal. The game is set in Kemuri City, a vertical urban environment described as the place closest to the afterlife. Players take on the role of a yokai hunter, searching for yokai, forming contracts with them, and gaining their powers as Possession Apparel that changes both appearance and combat style. A signature mechanic called the Foxwindow lets players peer through a hand gesture to reveal hidden fractures between worlds. The game supports up to three players in online co-op. It is coming to PS5 in 2027.
Until Dawn 2 was also revealed, developed by first-party PlayStation studio Firesprite. This standalone sequel moves away from the snowy cabin setting of Supermassive's original and puts a group of ghost hunters on a tropical island. The ghost hunting crew, known for their popular paranormal channel Dead True, have never actually encountered anything real until their visit to this island. The Butterfly Effect mechanic from the original returns, and Peter Stormare is back as the enigmatic Dr. Hill. Until Dawn 2 is coming in 2027.
A Few Other Announcements Worth Noting
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, a full Unreal Engine 5 remake of the 1996 original co-developed by Crystal Dynamics and Flying Hog and published by Amazon Games, received a new trailer and a release date of February 12, 2027.
The Lost Wild, a dinosaur survival horror game from Great Ape Games published by Annapurna Interactive, was shown for the first time. Players take the role of Saskia, who wakes up on a mysterious island overrun by intelligent predatory dinosaurs. The focus is on evasion, stealth, and resourcefulness rather than direct combat. It is coming to PS5 and PC in 2027.
Bancho the Chef was announced by Dave the Diver developer Mintrocket. This standalone prequel is set in 2004, 19 years before the events of Dave the Diver, and follows Bancho before he became a sushi master. The game blends cooking simulation with RPG and adventure elements across a journey through Asia. It is in development for PS5.
ILL, an action-packed survival horror game from Team Clout and Mundfish Powerhouse, has released a brand-new story trailer. This realistic first-person title leans into visceral body horror, cinematic immersion, environmental storytelling, and intense, physical gameplay. Aiming for a 2027 release, ILL will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls from Arc System Works revealed three new playable characters: Carnage, Green Goblin, and Magneto, all joining the Knights of Doom team led by Doctor Doom. A new stage called New York Night was also shown. The game launches August 6, 2026.
Bungie gave a short look at Marathon's second season, called Nightfall, which launched on the day of the State of Play.
On the PlayStation Plus side, RuneScape: Dragonwilds is coming to the PS Plus Game Catalog in Fall 2026. The Classics Catalog is getting Gitaroo Man in June, Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy in July, and Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams in August.
