Summer Game Fest 2026: PlayStation State of Play, Xbox Showcase, and More Are All Happening This Week

Gaming's biggest showcase week of the year is officially here, with PlayStation, Xbox, and Summer Game Fest all set to drop major announcements within days of each other.

Starting June 2 and running through June 7, this stretch is essentially the Super Bowl for gaming fans. You have Sony's PlayStation State of Play kicking things off, followed by Summer Game Fest on June 5, and then the Xbox Games Showcase on June 7. And somewhere in mid-June, Nintendo is also expected to chime in with a Direct of its own. It is a packed schedule, and there is a lot to look forward to.

PlayStation State of Play: What's the Deal?

Sony is first up, and the State of Play on June 2 is already generating a lot of buzz. The showcase is scheduled to run for over 60 minutes, with some theater listings suggesting it could stretch closer to 90 minutes. That is a significant amount of time, which means Sony likely has more up its sleeve than just one or two announcements.

The confirmed headliner is Marvel's Wolverine from Insomniac Games. The show will open with an extended gameplay look at the title, described as focusing on Logan's brutal and relentless combat. The game is set to launch on September 15 on PS5, and pre-orders are widely expected to go live during or right after the event. Fans are hoping to catch a closer look at Madripoor, along with a better idea of how Wolverine's iconic healing factor will play out mechanically in gameplay.

Beyond Wolverine, the event promises updates, announcements, and gameplay reveals from top studios around the world. Speculation is running wild, as it always does before a State of Play. Sony Santa Monica is reportedly working on a spin-off centered around Kratos' wife, Faye, and there are also whispers of a brand-new IP being helmed by God of War 2018 director Cory Barlog. Whether either of those shows up remains to be seen.

Other names floating around include Phantom Blade Zero (launching September 8), Horizon Hunters Gathering, and a potential Gran Turismo 8 reveal, with 2027 marking 30 years for the Gran Turismo franchise.

It covers everything from AAA giants to indie surprises, and past editions have delivered some genuinely jaw-dropping moments.

No single game is dominating the pre-show conversation this time, which is actually exciting. As per reports and community speculation, we could see Onimusha updates, new content tied to Resident Evil or Monster Hunter Wilds, and potential glimpses at titles like Assassin's Creed Codename Hexe and Marvel's Blade.

Xbox Games Showcase: What Is Microsoft Bringing?

On June 7, Microsoft takes the stage with the Xbox Games Showcase, which will be followed immediately by a Gears of War: E-Day Direct. The combined runtime is expected to land around two hours, which gives Xbox plenty of room to make some noise.

Confirmed names for the showcase include Fable, Halo: Campaign Evolved, and the next Call of Duty title. Gears of War: E-Day, which is the star of the dedicated Direct segment, will dig into the game's origin story set on Emergence Day. According to reports, the Direct will cover campaign sections, story details, multiplayer hints, and a look back at the franchise's 25th anniversary. The Coalition is developing the game, and expectations are high.

In addition to confirmed details, there are unconfirmed rumors about Clockwork Revolution, Plague Tale Legacy, Witchbrook, and Tropico 7 possibly making appearances. On the hardware front, there could also be more news related to Project Helix.

Nintendo to Drop a Direct This Week Too

Nintendo is back in the Summer Game Fest lineup this year, with a Nintendo Direct scheduled for June 9 at 7 AM PT. The 50-minute presentation will showcase upcoming Nintendo Switch2 and Nintendo Switch titles. Following that, there will be a 95-minute Nintendo Treehouse: Live event featuring gameplay from select games highlighted during the Direct.

The big question is what kind of Direct it will be. Last year's June showcase was entirely focused on Donkey Kong Bananza, while the major announcements were saved for September. The year before that was a full-blown Direct loaded with reveals.

Rumors for the June 2026 Nintendo Direct are on the wilder end of the spectrum. Insider NateTheHate has claimed that an Ocarina of Time remake is coming to Switch 2 in the second half of the year, approaching the holidays. If that is real, this showcase would be a natural place to announce it. The same source also indicated that the next 3D Mario is planned for a 2027 release, and a teaser reveal at the June Direct would not be surprising at all.

When and Where to Watch Nintendo Direct:

  • Los Angeles (PT) → Jun 9, 7:00 AM

  • New York (ET) → Jun 9, 10:00 AM

  • London (BST) → Jun 9, 3:00 PM

  • Berlin (CEST) → Jun 9, 4:00 PM

  • Riyadh (AST) → Jun 9, 5:00 PM

  • Sydney (AEST) → Jun 10, 12:00 AM (midnight)

And Yes, GTA 6 Is Still on the Horizon

Although GTA 6 isn’t directly linked to any specific showcases, Rockstar and Take-Two have confirmed that their marketing campaign is set to kick off this summer. The game is still targeting a November 19 launch, and a third trailer, along with full pre-order and pricing details, is expected to surface sometime in the coming weeks. Fans are keeping a close eye on social media for any surprise drops during showcase week.
