Xbox Games Showcase 2026: Gears of War E-Day, Persona 6, Fable Date, and Everything Announced

Microsoft held its Xbox Games Showcase on June 7, 2026, delivering a packed event that covered first-party reveals, third-party announcements, release dates, live service updates, and a surprise hardware reveal. The show opened with Gears of War: E-Day and immediately made headlines for a reason nobody quite expected: the return of Xbox console exclusivity. It closed with a first look at Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4's DMZ mode, and in between, there was plenty to talk about.

Did Xbox Bring Back Console Exclusives?

That was the headline coming out of the show. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma took the stage following the Gears of War: E-Day gameplay reveal to confirm that the game will not be coming to PS5. It will remain on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC. Clockwork Revolution from inXile got the same treatment later in the show, confirmed as a second Xbox console exclusive for 2027.

The move marks a significant shift for Microsoft, which spent the past few years bringing its games to PlayStation. According to Sharma's comments at the showcase, exclusivity will be decided on a game-by-game basis going forward. Not everything is going that route: State of Decay 3 was confirmed for PS5 alongside Xbox, and games like Halo: Campaign Evolved and Fable remain multiplatform. But the signal is clear. New titles that have not already been announced could follow the exclusive path.

Gears of War: E-Day Opened the Show

The Coalition's prequel to the original Gears of War kicked off the showcase with a full gameplay reveal and a release date of October 6, 2026. The game is set on Emergence Day, the moment the Locust first erupted from the ground and began tearing apart human civilization on Sera. Players follow a younger, faster Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago through the streets of the city of Kalona as chaos breaks out around them.

The gameplay showed a more mobile Marcus than fans are used to. Sliding into cover, climbing obstacles, and leaping over gaps are all part of the new movement system. The familiar Lancer chainsaw bayonet is still very much present. The city itself was described by The Coalition as the largest and most complex location in Gears history, and the direct that followed the main showcase went deeper into how it was built using Unreal Engine 5, with destructible environments that fall apart in real time as players move through it.

The campaign supports two-player split-screen co-op as well as online co-op for up to four players. A 4v4 Versus mode returns alongside Horde Siege, a new 12-player PvE mode that splits three squads across large city maps to fight off waves of Locust together. An open beta is scheduled for August 6, 2026. Players who pre-order will receive early access to the beta.

What Is Clockwork Revolution?

inXile's Clockwork Revolution has been building anticipation for a while, and the new showcase trailer leaned into the game's strengths. Set in a steampunk city, the first-person RPG puts players in a world where time manipulation is a core mechanic. The new trailer, titled The Heist, showed off gadgets, time-bending abilities, and the game's sharp sense of humor through the introduction of a crew called the Rotten Row Hooligans. The aesthetic draws clear inspiration from the BioShock series, and the trailer did nothing to discourage that comparison. It is coming to Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC in 2027. No PS5 version was announced.

Fable Gets a Release Date and a Villain

Playground Games finally put a date on Fable: February 23, 2027. The new story trailer gave the clearest look yet at the world of Albion and, more importantly, the main villain. Hayley Atwell plays Isabel, the game's primary antagonist, and the trailer teased a fleeting glimpse of Jack of Blades as well. The cast also includes Matt King, Richard Ayoade, and Natasia Demetriou among a wide range of British talent. The Premium Edition offers early access starting February 18, 2027. The game is coming to Xbox Series X, PC, and PS5, and will be available day one on Xbox Game Pass.

Halo: Campaign Evolved Has a Release Date and New Missions

Halo Studios confirmed that Halo: Campaign Evolved launches July 28, 2026, across Xbox Series X, PS5, and Steam. The game is a full reimagining of the 2001 original, rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5. The big news from the showcase was the reveal of Operation: Meteorite, a set of three new prequel story missions set one year before the events of Combat Evolved. These missions follow Master Chief and Sergeant Johnson as they take down a Covenant research vessel, and they introduce new enemy types and expanded weapon options from across the Halo series.

According to the trailer, the missions include grounded infantry combat, a new space sequence, and at least one Warthog run. The game is available to pre-order across all storefronts for $49.99. Multiple insiders have also pointed to Halo 2 and 3 remakes being in the pipeline, though nothing was confirmed at the showcase.

Persona 6 Is Finally Confirmed

Atlus dropped a short teaser for Persona 6 during the showcase. The trailer showed a dark, ominous environment bathed in green light, which aligns with years of fan speculation about the game's color theming following the tradition of red for Persona 5, yellow for Persona 4, and blue for Persona 3.

Atlus confirmed the game is coming to Xbox Series X, PC via Steam, and PS5, and will be available day one on Xbox Game Pass. "Persona 6 brings everything beloved about the series into a bold new story," Atlus said. "The signature blend of heartfelt daily life and pulse-pounding supernatural adventure returns, wrapped around a completely fresh, standalone story and a new cast of characters." No release window was given.

Persona 4 Revival also got a release date at the same show: February 18, 2027, on Xbox Series X, PS5, PC via Steam, and day one on Xbox Game Pass. The remake follows in the footsteps of Persona 3: Reload, updating the beloved RPG with modern visuals and new combat mechanics while preserving the original story.

The Other New Reveals

State of Decay 3 returned with its first proper gameplay trailer after years of silence. The game is coming in 2027 to Xbox Series X, PC, and PS5. Undead Labs confirmed a world map four times the size of State of Decay 2, a shared-world system that does not require the host to be online, weapon variations built around a maker culture concept, and Plague Nests, high-risk looting areas that take on different forms and behaviors each time. No firm date was given beyond 2027.

Spyro: A Realm Beyond from Toys for Bob is the first original Spyro game in nearly two decades. The trailer showed Spyro in cinematic form alongside brief gameplay footage of free flight, and confirmed that original voice actor Tom Kenny is back. The game is being built in Unreal Engine 5 and is coming in spring 2027 to PS5, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. According to the developers, the flying mechanics in A Realm Beyond are built around active environmental interaction, letting players use the world itself to gain speed and momentum in ways that go beyond simply pressing a button to soar.

Senua from Ninja Theory was announced as the next game in the Hellblade universe, though studio head Dom Matthews was clear that this is not Hellblade 3. It is described as an additive evolution of the series, built by the full 85-person studio together for the first time in over a decade. The game promises broader gameplay, deeper combat, and an interconnected world compared to the previous entries. "This is an out-and-out action-adventure game," said Matthews. "It's about giving Hellblade fans what they've been asking for while meeting action-adventure players' expectations." It is coming in 2027 to Xbox Series X, PC, and PS5, and will be day one on Game Pass.

Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy from Asobo Studio arrives August 27, 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, day one on Game Pass. Set 15 years before A Plague Tale: Requiem, the game stars the pirate smuggler Sophia as she unravels a curse on Minotaur Island. The biggest departure from previous Plague Tale games is the emphasis on combat: Sophia wields a sword and takes a much more action-forward approach compared to the stealth-heavy style of Amicia's adventures.

Minecraft Dungeons 2 got a release date of September 29, 2026, on Xbox Series X, PS5, and Nintendo Switch 2, priced at $29.99. It will be available on Game Pass. The sequel promises more dangerous encounters, new gear systems, and co-op for up to four players.

Metro 2039 from 4A Games showed its first proper gameplay in a three-minute trailer, confirming a February 2027 release on Xbox Series X, PS5, and PC. The game follows the Stranger, a fully voiced protagonist, as they return to a Moscow Metro now united under a brutal totalitarian regime called the Novoreich, led by a new Fuhrer known as Hunter. As per 4A, who are based in Ukraine and developing the game amid Russia's ongoing invasion of the country, Metro 2039 is going for a much darker tone and tells its story from a unique Ukrainian perspective.

Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember from Team Ninja is coming in early 2027 to Xbox Series X, PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. It is day one on Game Pass. The reveal trailer showed the Three Kingdoms era setting fans of the first game will recognize, with a clear expansion of the martial arts combat and a stinger reveal that teased a legendary historical figure.

Castlevania: Belmont's Curse is arriving October 15, 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, co-developed by Evil Empire and Motion Twin and published by Konami. Set in 1499 Paris, players take on the role of Rose Belmont, daughter of Trevor, as she hunts monsters across the burning city using the iconic Vampire Killer whip. Bosses include Death, Medusa, Carmilla, and a new addition: Joan of Arc.

Crazy Taxi: World Tour from Sega finally got its full trailer after being announced at The Game Awards back in 2023. Original creator Kenji Kanno is back on the project. The game features five cities, an open world, online multiplayer, a classic arcade mode, and a story-driven campaign following Axel. It is coming in 2027 to PS5, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.

Valor Mortis from the creators of Ghostrunner is a first-person soulslike set in a twisted version of the Napoleonic Wars. Players take the role of William, a soldier resurrected with corrupting supernatural power. The White Lotus actor Vincent Cassel plays Napoleon Bonaparte in the game. It launches September 24, 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, and is day one on Game Pass.

Join Us from Wolf Haus Games is a doomsday cult open-world survival game where the most important resource is people. Players recruit followers, build a compound, craft a belief system, and fight off police and government forces with an arsenal that apparently includes a snake launcher. It supports four-player co-op and launches in March 2027 on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, day one on Game Pass.

Magicians: The Devil's Deal from Uppercut Games and Focus Entertainment is a first-person action game where stage magic becomes real. Players take the role of Jacob Menteuro, a fallen illusionist cast into Hell, fighting through a Victorian hellscape called Theatreland. It is coming in 2027 to PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, and is day one on Game Pass.

Bad Magpie from UK studio Milktooth is a narrative adventure where players control a one-winged magpie on a chaotic quest to collect trinkets for a fallen star. It is coming in 2027 to Xbox Series X and PC via Game Pass.

Vivarium from Studio Meadowflower is a hand-illustrated life-sim adventure inspired by timeless anime classics. Players step into a summer that never ends as Jenny, an energetic resident of a tiny terrarium town. The game syncs to the real-world calendar to deliver daily narrative events and quests throughout its campaign, alongside neighbor quests, environmental puzzles, and garden and home management. It is coming in 2027 to Xbox Series X, PC, and Xbox Cloud Gaming, with Game Pass and Play Anywhere support.

The show closed with a new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 trailer focusing on the DMZ extraction mode. Set in a new Korean map called Hajin, the mode features its own story, a player bounty system, dynamic weather, AI enemies that coordinate and react to player actions, and a forward operating base system that can be upgraded across sessions. Modern Warfare 4 launches October 23, 2026.

Live Service Updates

id Software revealed DOOM: The Dark Ages Revelations, a significant expansion to last year's DOOM: The Dark Ages. It launches July 7, 2026, across all platforms the base game supports. The expansion takes place inside a purgatory within the Doom Slayer's mind, where a new weapon called the Chain Spear plays a central role. The Chain Spear can parry bullets, strike at close range, and be thrown like a javelin. According to game director Hugo Martin, who previously teased the expansion in February, it is "basically like a sequel" in terms of scope. The expansion is free for Premium Edition owners. Standard edition players can purchase it separately for $19.99.

Sea of Thieves Season 20 introduces Custom Seas on June 18, a new set of tools letting players create their own game modes, spawn enemies and objects, set rules, and record custom cutscenes using a free camera mode. The update is free for all players.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 gets World Update 22 on July 4, 2026, adding over 30 US national parks and monuments across more than 400,000 square kilometers of terrain spanning 12 states.

The Elder Scrolls Online Season 1 brings the Thieves Guild back for the first time since 2016, launching July 8. The new story follows a conflict between the guild and the Koldane Cartel, with expansion into the High Rock kingdom of Daggerfall.

Where Winds Meet, the Wuxia open-world action RPG, shadow-dropped on Xbox at the show, and its third expansion Hidden Mountain was confirmed for July.

Age of Empires IV: Anniversary Edition is getting a new expansion called Raiders of the North, set to launch this fall. The expansion adds two new civilizations: the Vikings and the Scots. The Vikings are built around fast melee infantry, early naval dominance, and a Longhouse-driven economy. The Scots take a more defensive approach, leaning on disciplined infantry, fortified structures, and a food economy built around Highland cattle and fishponds. A Mustering Hall mechanic lets players shift between Highland and Lowland strengths mid-match. Crucible mode expands with four new missions, solo and two-player co-op support, and a deeper progression system featuring Boons, Perks, Mutators, and civilization-specific Talent Tracks. Two new biomes, Scottish Heathland and Tundra Summer, round out the expansion's additions.

The 25th Anniversary Hardware Reveal

Perhaps the most crowd-pleasing moment of the evening, outside of the game announcements, was the reveal of the Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition. Designed to mark 25 years of Xbox, the console features a translucent OG Green chassis inspired directly by the original 2001 Xbox. The iconic X lights up in green on the front, and a 25th Anniversary logo sits alongside it. The internal hardware is identical to the standard Xbox Series X.

The accompanying Xbox Wireless Controller X25 Special Edition matches the translucent green finish and includes bumpers that pay tribute to the original black and white buttons on the classic Duke controller. The transparent battery door reveals the classic Xbox logo on the back. Both the console and controller launch in November 2026.

In a notable moment at the show, Asha Sharma announced that attendees with fan badges would receive the console for free. Pricing and pre-order details for the general public are expected to follow soon.
