Pokemon Pokopia has sold over 2.2 million copies worldwide within just four days of its launch on March 5, 2026.
The milestone was officially confirmed by both The Pokémon Company and Nintendo in a joint press release.
Out of those 2.2 million units, over one million copies were sold in Japan alone, which says a lot about how big the game is in its home market.
The game is a Switch 2 exclusive and sits at the crossroads of a farming sim and a city builder. Critics have drawn comparisons to titles like Animal Crossing, Minecraft, Dragon Quest, and Viva Pinata.
It has also made history as the highest-rated Pokemon game ever on Metacritic, and one of the highest-rated games of 2026 overall.
Bloomberg and VGC report that Nintendo’s strong launch gave its stock a much-needed boost after months of decline. Shares had slipped from a high of 14,105 yen ($89.09) on November 6 to 8,350 yen ($52.74) by February 13, a drop of over 40%. Following Pokopia’s release weekend, the price jumped to 9,120 yen ($57.60) on Tuesday, then surged to 10,075 yen ($63.65) the next day, a 10.4% single-day leap.
As per reports by VGC, physical stock of the Switch 2 Game-Key Card for Pokopia has been hard to come by in both the US and the UK. Major retailers, including Walmart, GameStop, Target, and Nintendo's own store in the US are reporting sold-out status. In the UK, Currys, Smyths Toys, and My Nintendo Store are facing similar shortages. Amazon reportedly bumped the price up from $69.99 to $79.99 before the listing went temporarily out of stock altogether.
