Critical Reception: What Are Reviewers Saying?

The reviews are in, and Pokemon Pokopia has landed with serious critical praise. The game currently holds a Metascore of 88 on Metacritic, marked as Generally Favorable based on 58 critic reviews. That puts it among the highest-rated Pokémon titles the franchise has ever produced.

GAMINGbible awarded it a perfect 100/100, calling it "a true adventure that boasts a refreshing sense of freedom" and even floating it as a Game of the Year contender. VGC matched that score, noting the game is "as full of discovery at 100 hours as it was at 1."

GamesRadar+, Game Informer, IGN, and GameSpot all came in at 90/100. GamesRadar+ described it as "a brilliantly bizarre blend of Pokemon, Animal Crossing, Dragon Quest Builders, and Viva Piñata."

IGN called it "a real treat," while GameSpot praised how it "compensates for each one's weaknesses" by fusing the best of its inspirations with the Pokemon universe.

Game Informer highlighted it as "one of the best examples of a third-party developer using the Pokemon license to the fullest extent possible."

Nintendo Life and Eurogamer both landed at 80/100. Nintendo Life called it "the freshest Pokemon experience in a long time," and Eurogamer named it "one of the best spin-offs the franchise has ever seen."

The one notable outlier is TheGamer at 60/100, which felt the game offered "building quests that are mostly rigid and repetitive." Even so, they acknowledged there is "enough charm to see it through."

On the whole, the critical consensus is firmly positive. Pokémon Pokopia is clearly something special, and if you have been on the fence, the reviews make a pretty strong case for jumping in at launch.
