PLAYERUNKNOWN Productions has announced that its new project, Prologue: Go Wayback!, will launch in Steam Early Access on November 20, 2025.

This marks a big shift for the studio best known for PUBG. Instead of another multiplayer shooter, Brendan Greene’s team is diving into a single‑player, open‑world survival roguelike. If you’ve been following the beta, which ran for nearly two months, you’ll know the developers have been gathering feedback from players worldwide to fine‑tune the experience before release.
Unlike PUBG, which thrives on fast‑paced competitive matches, Prologue: Go Wayback! is all about emergent storytelling and survival in a procedurally generated wilderness. Every time you start a new run, the world is different. You’ll be crafting, exploring, and managing resources while trying to survive the elements. It’s a slower, more personal journey compared to the chaos of battle royale.
At launch, players will have access to three game modes:
Go Wayback! – the default mode where you survive and make your way to the Weather Tower.
Objective: Survive – a challenge mode focused on lasting as long as possible with limited resources.
Free Roam – a relaxed mode where you can explore without worrying about hunger, thirst, or hypothermia.
Early Access will also introduce custom game settings, letting you tweak weather, spawn rates, and even day/night cycles. On top of that, a Map Editor will be available, allowing you to design rivers, lakes, or even import PNG images to generate maps.
The team is also adding map seed sharing, so if you stumble upon a breathtaking view, you can share it with friends. And yes, a save system is being finalized so you can pause your journey and pick it up later.
