PUBG Mobile 4.2 Update Teases Nature-Themed Mode With Groot-Style Companion

PUBG Mobile has officially begun teasing its upcoming 4.2 update, expected to release in January 2026, and fans already have plenty to talk about.

The teaser arrived through an in-game Quiz, also shared on official X/Twitter, which revealed several hints about the new theme mode.

A Nature-Themed Adventure

The Quiz image makes it clear that PUBG Mobile 4.2 will lean heavily into a nature theme, filled with greenery and forest-inspired elements. This marks a big shift from the winter-themed update players are enjoying right now.

One highlight is the AI-powered tree companion inspired by Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Groot. While it’s unclear whether this is part of a collaboration or just a creative homage, the companion works similarly to the PowNin and Penguin helpers from version 4.1, offering revival assistance and additional loot.

New Vehicles to Explore

Two new vehicles are set to debut in the update:

  • Divine Deer/Stag Vehicle – A fast-moving mount that can be upgraded with grass and even used for shooting while riding. It will also feature storage capacity, adding tactical depth to matches.

  • Scorpion Vehicle – Details remain limited, but early impressions suggest a crab- or scorpion-like movement style. Some speculate it could even be a transformation rather than a traditional vehicle.

Magical Plants and Wing Equipment

Another standout feature is the Magic Plant System. Players will be able to plant seeds during matches and return in future games to harvest loot from the same location. This mechanic introduces persistence across matches, something rarely seen in PUBG Mobile.

Alongside this, butterfly-themed wing equipment will allow players to fly, adding verticality and new tactical options to gameplay.

Historical Inspiration

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time PUBG Mobile has experimented with plant-based content. Four years ago, the Flora Menace mode (Update 1.6) introduced floating islands, arena battles, and robotic enemies. The 4.2 update seems to revive that concept but with fresh twists, including magical plants and animal companions.

Beta and Release Timeline

Players won’t have to wait long to get a taste of the new mode. The beta version of PUBG Mobile 4.2 is expected to launch in December 2025, giving early testers a chance to explore Lumière-like forests, experiment with magical plants, and try out the new vehicles.

The full update will roll out globally in January 2026, likely between the first and second week of the month, with BGMI players in India receiving it a week later.
