Rob Wiethoff, the voice behind John Marston in the Red Dead Redemption series, has hinted at an upcoming announcement that's expected to be revealed by the end of this week.

During a Red Dead Redemption stream, Wiethoff expressed his excitement without revealing much detail. “I’ve got such exciting news,” he said, adding, “I can’t share it with you right now, and it’s absolutely killing me.”

He further teased that the news would be revealed “definitely before Friday,” and noted he won’t be the only one announcing it.

Naturally, fans have been quick to connect the dots. This tease follows earlier rumors that Red Dead Redemption 2 may be getting a next-gen upgrade for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, possibly alongside a Nintendo Switch 2 port. According to YouTuber Nate the Hate, the updated version is reportedly set to launch later this year, bringing 60 FPS and other enhancements to current-generation consoles.

It’s worth noting that Red Dead Redemption 2 has yet to receive a proper next-gen upgrade, despite its massive success and ongoing popularity. Rockstar has remained quiet on the matter, even though the demand has been consistent since the launch of the latest consoles.

As Rockstar continues to focus on Grand Theft Auto VI, currently in active development, it’s unlikely we’ll hear anything about Red Dead Redemption 3 anytime soon. That said, a next-gen update or re-release would make sense as a way to keep the franchise relevant while fans wait for what comes next.

Whatever the announcement may be, fans won’t have to wait long. With Wiethoff promising news before the end of the week, all eyes are now on Rockstar to see what’s next for the Red Dead universe.
