Sloclap’s new football-inspired multiplayer title Rematch has crossed the 1 million mark in unit sales within just five days of its launch.

The game has been turning heads even before release, drawing large numbers on Steam during its pre-launch phase. On launch day, Rematch brought in an impressive 1 million unique players within the first 24 hours.

The momentum didn’t slow down, and within a few days, the title officially surpassed 3 million players across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

Sloclap shared more in-game stats to show just how active the player base has been: over 69 million goalkeeper saves, over 55 million goals scored, 33.5 million assists registered, and almost 12 million matches played. It’s safe to say the community has been putting in work—and clearly having fun with it.

Rematch takes a different approach compared to traditional football games. Instead of controlling an entire team, each player manages just one character. This adds a skill-based layer to the game, emphasizing individual performance and tactics. With its third-person perspective, flashy football tricks, and fast-paced online matches, it offers something a bit fresher for fans of the genre.

Reception has been fairly solid, though not without criticism. On Metacritic, it holds a “mixed or average” score of 76/100 based on 22 critic reviews. Over on Steam, players have rated it “Mostly Positive,” with 78% of roughly 16,000 reviews recommending the game. OpenCritic gives it a 75/100, with 63% of critics saying it’s worth trying.

Critics have had mixed impressions. PC Gamer referred to Rematch as a “heart-pumping genre superlative,” even if technical hiccups get in the way. GameSpot appreciated its “refreshing, skill-based approach,” but acknowledged some frustrations. Meanwhile, TheGamer noted server and monetization issues, comparing it more to a “Sunday League” experience than a “Champion’s League” one.

Still, the broader reaction points to strong potential. ESPN called attention to its ability to entertain even non-football fans and suggested it could have a real future in esports. Insider Gaming echoed that sentiment, stating that while it’s not perfect, the core gameplay is strong enough to outweigh its early flaws.

With such a strong debut and a growing player base, Rematch might just become Sloclap’s most competitive—and crowd-pleasing—title yet.
