Sloclap’s new third-person PvP soccer title, Rematch, drew in over 1 million players within its first 24 hours of release.

Launched on June 19, 2025, across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, Rematch has made a strong first impression in the competitive multiplayer space. Combining fast-paced soccer mechanics with PvP action, the game has quickly found an audience thanks to a mix of pre-launch buzz and availability on platforms like Xbox Game Pass. However, it’s worth noting that the 1 million figure represents players, not copies sold, as many accessed the title through subscription services.

The milestone was announced via Rematch's official X (formerly Twitter) account, where the developers expressed gratitude to the community and shared their roadmap for the game's future. While hitting a million players is no small feat, the team at Sloclap is fully aware that sustaining the momentum will require more than a flashy launch stat.

According to the developers, the current focus is squarely on refining the gameplay experience. This includes tackling technical issues like lag, desynchronization between players, and various game-breaking bugs. A major point of attention is the absence of crossplay at launch—something the team admits was a disappointment.

Sloclap explained that crossplay didn’t make it into the initial release due to "unforeseen technical complexities." The team has since developed a basic working version and is now working to roll out the full feature. They’ve assured players that enabling friends to play across platforms is their top priority moving forward.

Beyond technical fixes, the developers also shared a detailed list of planned improvements and new features coming to Rematch. These updates are grouped into four core categories: gameplay mechanics, competitive systems, social components, and casual play features.

In terms of core gameplay, the team is looking into refining key mechanics such as sliding tackles, goalkeeper mechanics, dribbling responsiveness, and wall contacts. Sloclap mentioned that player feedback will shape many of these changes, and they intend to test new features through live test servers before rolling them out more broadly.

On the competitive side, the developers are working on implementing a tournament system, leaderboards beyond the Elite tier, and even a club creation tool to allow players to organize themselves into formal teams.

The social aspects of Rematch are also getting attention, with crossplay being the most urgent. Alongside that, the developers are building features like match spectating within squads, rematch options with past teammates, and more ways to interact with friends in-game.

For casual players, Sloclap is planning to introduce AI-controlled bots that can be used for practice and non-competitive game modes. Rotating game modes and new quick-play formats are also on the horizon, offering more variety for those looking to have fun without the intensity of ranked matches.

The team stressed that while these features are in active development, players should temper their expectations when it comes to timelines. “Please remember that we are not a huge team, and that these features take time,” Sloclap said in their latest developer update. “We will communicate a more precise roadmap for upcoming seasons as soon as we have better visibility.”

While the road ahead for Rematch is packed with technical tasks and feature rollouts, the strong launch indicates there’s plenty of interest in this unique blend of soccer and PvP action.
