Resident Evil Survival Unit, the mobile strategy spin-off first announced earlier this week, has now received a more in-depth reveal—giving fans a clearer picture of what to expect when it launches later this year on iOS and Android devices.

Developed by Aniplex, known for Fate/Grand Order and Magia Record, the game introduces a fresh take on the Resident Evil universe. Set in a parallel timeline, it brings together a squad of iconic characters like Leon S. Kennedy, Jill Valentine, Claire Redfield, and Barry Burton to battle classic Resident Evil monsters in real-time tactical missions. While the concept of assembling a dream team of survivors isn't entirely new, what makes Survival Unit stand out is its blend of real-time strategy (RTS) gameplay with base-building elements, all optimized for mobile.

According to the showcase presented by Aniplex, players will begin their journey as an amnesiac Umbrella test subject. From there, they’ll gradually gather allies from across the series, building up a mansion-style base where characters can live, interact, and prepare for missions. This base also acts as the main hub for upgrading units and managing resources—elements that give the game more depth than a typical mobile experience.

Combat appears to be single-player for now, focused on real-time defense-style gameplay, but Aniplex hinted at upcoming global multiplayer features. Players will reportedly be able to “connect and compete” with others around the world in real-time, although specifics on PvP or co-op features are still under wraps.

In terms of character lineup, Survival Unit doesn’t hold back. Alongside the franchise’s biggest names, there are also lesser-seen characters like Alyssa Ashcroft from Resident Evil Outbreak, Becca Woolett from Resident Evil: Resistance, and Marvin Branagh from Resident Evil 2.

Characters can be upgraded using items purchased from the Resident Evil Merchant. However, Aniplex has yet to explain how the game will be monetized. Whether it follows a traditional gacha model or opts for a different in-game economy remains to be seen.

While the storyline won’t be part of the official Resident Evil canon, the spin-off seems comfortable leaning into familiar tropes and settings. It won’t tie into Resident Evil: Requiem, the next major series title, but it does give players a chance to explore what-if scenarios and team-ups that wouldn’t be possible otherwise.

Pre-registration is now open, and the game is scheduled to launch on Android and iOS later this year.
