Canadian developer "Raccoon Logic" is off to a flying start—just 10 days after launching Revenge of the Savage Planet, the wild sci-fi adventure has already pulled in over 1 million players.
In a heartfelt message, the team shared:
“We are super grateful to all the 1M players who have taken up revenge against Alta. Thank you for the support. On the team side, we are continuing to make fixes very regularly to ensure that everyone has the best experience possible. We're also working on a roadmap for new features and updates that we want to share with you very soon! In the meantime, keep kicking brainards, raccoons, and decking out your habitat STV Cribs Style. The team loves seeing all your creations, gifs, memes, etc. Keep 'em coming!”
So, What Is Revenge of the Savage Planet?
Released on May 8, 2025, Revenge of the Savage Planet is the official follow-up to 2020’s cult favorite Journey to the Savage Planet.
Though the sequel shifts from a first-person view to a third-person perspective, it keeps its trademark satirical humor and alien absurdity that fans loved.
You play as a stranded space explorer who wakes up mid-cryosleep only to get fired by the ever-lovely corporate overlords at Alta Interglobal. Now stuck on a hostile planet, your mission is to survive, uncover corporate secrets, and get a little payback.
The game takes players across four main planets—Stellaris Prime, Xephyr, Quasadron IX, and Zenithian Rift—each packed with its own creatures, ecosystems, and puzzles.
At its core, Revenge is all about open-world exploration, packed with Metroidvania elements. You’ll scan everything from plants to critters to unlock gear and upgrades, and all your findings are tracked in the in-game Kindex system—perfect for completionists chasing that 100%.
Combat is a chaotic mix of blasting, stunning, and capturing over 70 different alien lifeforms. Enemies like the Wardrill mean business, but you’ll also run into fun oddballs like the Babutt. Studying them helps you unlock more gear and cosmetic perks.
Co-op fans, rejoice—the game supports both local split-screen and online cross-platform multiplayer.
Your home base, called Nu Florida, is where the real customization magic happens. Deck it out with decorations, research alien species, and craft gear using resources like Aluminium, Carbon, Silicon, and the ever-gooey Orange Goo via a 3D printer system.
Reception and Behind-the-Scenes
The game’s reception has been mostly positive so far, with Steam reviews sitting around 79–80% positive. Critics and players have called out the colorful visuals, addictive exploration, and fun co-op mechanics. On the flip side, some folks have mentioned that the pacing can drag a bit, and that combat doesn’t feel quite as refined as it could be.
Raccoon Logic itself has an interesting backstory. The team was formed by ex-Typhoon Studios developers after Google shut down its Stadia division in 2021. Lucky for fans, they managed to keep the Savage Planet IP and came back swinging, this time under the direction of creative lead Alex Hutchinson.
The devs cite influences like Metroid Prime and Subnautica, but say they’ve kept the tone rooted in “earnest comedy”—combining sharp satire with absurd, laugh-out-loud moments.
Revenge of the Savage Planet is available now on PC (via Steam and Epic), PlayStation, and Xbox, and it also launched on Xbox Game Pass right out of the gate.
