Roblox has announced a 42% increase to its Developer Exchange (DevEx) payout rate, specifically targeting spending by age-verified players aged 18 and older in the United States. The change goes live on June 8.
The move is not random. Roblox's 18 to 34 age group in the US grew by over 50% year-over-year and spends around 50% more than younger players. That is a demographic the platform clearly wants more of, and it is now putting real money behind that goal.
The updated DevEx rate applies to earnings from:
Game passes
Robux subscriptions
Select in-game items
Private servers
Not eligible: In-game avatar items and Marketplace items.
There is a catch, though. To qualify for the higher payout, games must use Roblox's R15 avatar system. This system supports advanced skeletal joints and physics-based animation, enabling more realistic character movement.
Creator location doesn’t matter: any developer worldwide qualifies if their game meets the rules. No application is needed either; if your game meets the criteria (mainly R15), you’re automatically eligible, with no need to join Incubator or Jumpstart programs. Roblox says they’ll share the exact eligibility for custom or no-avatar games soon.
The financial context makes the decision easy to understand. According to Roblox's figures, creators earned over $1.5 billion through DevEx in 2025. A 42% rate bump on a fast-growing, high-spending adult segment is a serious incentive for developers to shift their focus.
Alongside the payout changes, Roblox is also pushing what it calls "novel games," described by the platform as "ambitious, genre-defining experiences" built for older audiences. A new Standout Games section will be added to the Roblox homepage, giving these titles prominent visibility. The recommendation algorithm is also being adjusted to prioritize long-term player retention over short-term engagement spikes.
The announcement also came alongside the launch of Roblox Reality, the platform's new photorealistic graphics overhaul.
