RuneScape: Dragonwilds has sold more than 600,000 copies in less than two weeks of its early access release, marking an extraordinary start for the co-op survival spin-off.
The game has quickly risen to become one of the top global sellers on Steam's charts.
Jagex CEO Jon Bellamy shared these impressive statistics on LinkedIn, highlighting the game's remarkable reception. Beyond strong sales, the game has gathered over 13k user reviews on Steam, with 85% giving positive feedback.
"The response from players, the RuneScape community, and the industry so far has exceeded even our most hopeful expectations," Bellamy wrote. He added that the game's reception has reminded him of the surprising and inspiring nature of the gaming industry.
Players are particularly drawn to the game's enhanced combat system and innovative base-building features. Many reviewers have made favorable comparisons to the popular survival game Valheim, while noting that RuneScape: Dragonwilds offers more robust RPG elements.
The game's popularity extends to streaming platforms as well. According to Bellamy's report, it became the third most-watched game on Twitch shortly after release. Player engagement has been strong, with gaming sessions averaging more than two hours.
While celebrating the impressive metrics, Bellamy emphasized his pride in the development team. "Your creativity and commitment are fingerprints covering every part of this game," he noted in his message to the team led by Jesse America, Richard Turek, Carlos Verlee Vazquez, Robert Spencer Fox-Galassi, and Barry Hoffman.
The audio department, headed by Gene Rozenberg and Ashton Mills, received particular praise for their work in bringing the game world of Ashenfall to life with immersive soundscapes.
Jagex plans to keep RuneScape: Dragonwilds in early access until somewhere around 2026. The development team has already unveiled a detailed roadmap for the game that outlines numerous updates like new regions, skills, quests, and gameplay modes over the coming months.
