The Director's Cut is being positioned as the definitive edition of the critically acclaimed origin story. The enhanced version includes over 26 minutes of new cutscenes expanding the narrative.

These scenes focus on interactions such as:

  • Kazuma Kiryu and Akira Nishikiyama (his oath brother).

  • Kiryu and Daisaku Kuze (a Dojima Family lieutenant).

  • Goro Majima and an unspecified character (teased as “somebody”).

The game will also introduce a new "Red Light Raid" mode where players can team up (4 players in total) to defeat waves of enemies, adding a cooperative multiplayer element to the traditionally single-player experience. The mode also leverages the Nintendo Switch 2’s new chat functions and “C button.”

Yakuza 0 takes players to the entertainment districts of 1980s Tokyo and Osaka. The story follows two playable characters - Kazuma Kiryu, a young yakuza member framed for murder, and Goro Majima, a former yakuza managing a cabaret club. Their intertwined stories reveal how these characters became the legendary figures in the yakuza world.

The game combines serious crime drama with outlandish side activities and minigames that have become hallmarks of the series. Players can expect to experience everything from intense street fighting to managing businesses, singing karaoke, and playing classic SEGA arcade games.

Yakuza 0: Director's Cut releases on June 5, 2025, exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2, and pre-orders are already available through major retailers and the Nintendo eShop.
