Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 Coming to PlayStation 5 This Summer in Enhanced Edition

Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2

Microsoft has confirmed that Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 is heading to PlayStation 5 this summer in an Enhanced Edition.

While a specific launch date hasn’t been announced yet, developer Ninja Theory has assured fans that the Enhanced Edition will also roll out as a free update for existing platforms, including Xbox Series X|S and PC.

What’s New in the Enhanced Edition?

In a video update celebrating the game’s one-year anniversary on Xbox and PC, the studio shared the following:

"The team have been working hard to optimise Hellblade 2 for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro to give you the very best experience we can. We look forward to sharing more details with you soon."

While Ninja Theory hasn’t detailed exactly what the Enhanced Edition includes, players can expect visual and performance upgrades tailored for PS5 hardware—potentially including support for adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, and improved resolution or frame rates.

A Strategic Pivot for Xbox

This move is part of Microsoft’s broader multiplatform publishing strategy, which has seen an increasing number of previously Xbox-exclusive games arriving on rival consoles.

Games like Hi-Fi Rush, Pentiment, and Sea of Thieves launched on PlayStation platforms last year, with Indiana Jones & the Great Circle and Forza Horizon 5 being are most recent ones.

According to Alena Analytics, the move appears to be paying off—helping Microsoft reach more players without fully abandoning exclusivity.

A Full-Circle Moment for Ninja Theory

The Hellblade series has now come full circle. The original Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice launched as a timed PlayStation exclusive in 2017, before Microsoft acquired Ninja Theory in 2018.

Hellblade 2 launched in May 2024 exclusively on Xbox Series X|S and PC. Now, seven years after the first game’s debut, the franchise returns to PlayStation—not as an exclusive, but as part of Xbox Game Studios’ multiplatform publishing initiative.

Critical Reception

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 has received widespread praise from critics:

  • IGN called it a “spellbinding adventure packed with cinematic spectacle.”

  • Metacritic scores currently average around 81%, with particular praise for its narrative depth and technical achievements.

  • Game8 rated it 90/100, though noted lower-than-expected player engagement compared to other Xbox releases.

  • On Steam, 87% of 6k reviews are positive

Despite mixed commercial performance, the game’s reputation for immersive storytelling and audiovisual excellence continues to grow.
