Shroud Finally Plays Clair Obscur and Admits Asmongold Was Right All Along

Streamer shroud finally played GOTY winner Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 after initially opposing it. After 7 hours, he admitted "that was fun, no complaints" and conceded Asmongold was right.
FPS streamer Shroud changes his tune on Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

Streamer Michael “shroud” Grzesiek has finally sat down with Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and his verdict was surprisingly positive. After months of skepticism, the popular FPS personality admitted during his December 21 stream, “That was fun..had a great time, no complaints.”

The French RPG has been the talk of the industry ever since it swept The Game Awards 2025, securing a record-breaking nine wins, including the prestigious Game of the Year trophy. Yet, before the ceremony, Shroud had been openly backing Arc Raiders, an extraction shooter he believed deserved more recognition.

He even urged his viewers to “not let” Clair Obscur win, advocating for the multiplayer genre to receive more recognition, as he believes its player base is a "minority." That stance quickly drew criticism, especially since he hadn’t played the game himself.

The backlash prompted fellow streamer Asmongold to call him out, saying, “Are you kidding me? You didn’t even play the game! It’s an FPS; you can shoot with free aim. He’d love it.”

Shroud responded by promising that if Expedition 33 did win Game of the Year, he would give it a fair shot. True to his word, he streamed the game for nearly seven hours and came away with a fresh perspective.

“Something I thought I would never say out loud. Dare I say Asmongold was right?” Shroud remarked near the end of his session. “If I remember correctly, he said, when I play this game after it wins Game of the Year, I’m gonna enjoy it. Dare I say he was right? Is it too soon to say that? I mean, the game can’t get worse. It’s gonna only get better.”

Despite pointing out that the menus felt a bit convoluted, Shroud emphasized that it didn’t bother him. “The game’s cool, I like it. The story’s ramping up a little bit. I mean, I don’t care too much about story, but the gameplay’s really, really fun. I’m not a big JRPG guy, but having a great time with the parry system. I will say if it didn’t have the parry system, I don’t know if I’d be vibing as hard.”

He further explained his philosophy on games: “To me, gameplay and mechanics come first over story, and the game has good gameplay and mechanics … I’m excited to see where the story goes, but I also don’t care. Like if someone spoils it, I’m not going to be upset about it.”

Asmongold later reacted to Shroud’s stream, saying, “Yes, I know..I was watching him play it a little bit last night..not even Shroud can deny that this game is insanely good..it wasn’t me that was right, it was the people that made the game.”

Looking ahead, Shroud confirmed he will continue his Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 playthrough in upcoming streams, alongside Arc Raiders. And speaking of Arc Raiders, the game didn’t leave The Game Awards empty-handed—it walked away with the Best Multiplayer award, ensuring both titles had their moment in the spotlight.
