Slay the Spire 2 Sells 3 Million Copies in First Week

The roguelite deckbuilder from developer Mega Crit has made quite the impression right out of the gate. For a game that is still technically unfinished and only available on PC, those numbers speak volumes about how eagerly fans were waiting for a sequel.

Mega Crit shared the milestone in a Steam community post on March 13, 2025. Community manager Demi wrote:

"Slay the Spire 2 has been out for merely a week and we have already hit 3,000,000 units sold with more than 25,000,000 runs attempted!! Our team has been extremely excited to see so many people's enthusiasm for what we've been working on for the past 5 years, but our journey is just beginning!"

The concurrent player numbers have been just as impressive. According to SteamDB, the game peaked at over 574,000 concurrent players on Steam during its first week, putting it on top 20.

The game also shot straight to the number one spot on Steam's global Top Sellers list, climbing past major releases like Marathon and Resident Evil Requiem shortly after launch.

So what comes next? Mega Crit has been upfront about not wanting to lock themselves into a strict content roadmap just yet. They have confirmed that alternate versions of Acts 2 and 3 are in development, along with more cards, events, and general gameplay content.

In the shorter term, players can expect things like Steam Workshop support for mods, a revamped badge and scoring system, a friends-only leaderboard filter, multiplayer quality-of-life improvements, a phobia accessibility mode, additional art and visual effects, and an official Twitch plugin integration.

Balance patches are also ongoing. A recent update addressed an exploit that allowed players to reach absurd power levels.

Beyond the game itself, Mega Crit also announced a Kickstarter campaign for a Slay the Spire board game expansion called Downfall, which will let players take on the role of the game's bosses.

A vinyl release of the original Slay the Spire soundtrack and new Slay the Spire 2 plushies were announced as well, with merchandise retailer Fangamer also set to release a range of related products soon.
