The wait is almost over. Slay the Spire 2 is officially heading into Steam Early Access on March 5, 2026, and Mega Crit has given fans plenty to get excited about. From a brand new co-op mode to fresh characters and completely reworked mechanics, the sequel is shaping up to be a serious evolution of the roguelike deckbuilder that defined a genre.
If you are planning to jump in from day one, here is everything you need to know before launch.

Release Date and Global Launch Times
Slay the Spire 2 enters Steam Early Access on March 5, 2026. It is a simultaneous global release, so no region gets it early. Below are the confirmed launch times across major regions:
West US (Los Angeles / PST): March 5, at 10:00 AM
East US (New York / EST): March 5, at 1:00 PM
UK (London / GMT): March 5, at 6:00 PM
Central Europe (Berlin / CET): March 5, at 7:00 PM
Japan (Tokyo / JST): March 6, at 3:00 AM
Sydney (AEDT / UTC+11): March 6, at 5:00 AM
Platforms
At launch, Slay the Spire 2 will be available exclusively on PC via Steam. The supported platforms are:
Windows
macOS
Linux and SteamOS
Steam Deck (verified and ready from day one)
Console players will have to sit tight for now. According to Mega Crit, versions for PS5, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch 2 are planned for the full 1.0 release, which is currently estimated for sometime in 2027. The studio has also mentioned it is aiming for some form of cross-platform saving, though details on that front are still being worked out.
Price
Early Access price: $24.99 USD
Regional pricing is supported, so costs will vary depending on your location
There are no microtransactions in the game, as confirmed by the developer on the Steam discussion boards
The original Slay the Spire launched at a similar price point during its own Early Access run, so this feels right in line with what fans would expect.
How Long Will Early Access Last?
As per the developer, Early Access is expected to run for one to two years. The original game spent roughly one and a half years in Early Access before its full release, so a similar timeline here seems reasonable.
Key Features at Launch
Here is a breakdown of everything confirmed to be available when Early Access goes live:
Five playable characters: returning favorites Ironclad, Silent, and Defect, plus two brand-new additions in the Necrobinder and the Regent
Four-player online co-op mode with multiplayer-specific cards and team synergies
New enemies, bosses, environments, events, relics, and potions
An alternate acts system, splitting each act into two distinct zones with different content
New mechanics, including Doom, Stars, Forge, Enchantments, Quests, and Afflictions
Full controller support for Xbox and DualSense controllers via USB and Steam Input
Steam Cloud saves, leaderboards, stats, and Family Sharing
Save-anytime functionality
No always-online requirement for solo play
The game has also fully migrated away from Unity, as confirmed by Mega Crit in a statement to IGN. The sequel now runs on Godot, a free and open-source engine, which the team says better supports the multiplayer features and visual improvements coming in this release.
