Sonic and Shadow May Finally Be Heading to Fortnite, But Not the Way You Think

It looks like Fortnite is finally dipping its toes into the world of Sonic the Hedgehog — but not quite in the way you might expect.

According to multiple reliable leakers, including Wenso and Shiina, Epic Games has added new in‑game textures for Fortnite Kicks (the game’s collectible sneaker cosmetics) themed after Sonic and Shadow.

The discovery was made after the latest update, with dataminers uncovering detailed shoe designs inspired by the two iconic SEGA characters. Sonic’s pair features his signature red, white, and gold color scheme, while Shadow’s kicks lean into his darker black and red palette.

These virtual shoes resemble Puma’s upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog collection, which hits stores on October 30th. This coincidence has led players to speculate that the in-game items could be released around the same time.

For now, there’s no confirmation that the hedgehogs themselves will appear as full skins. But some fans point out that it would be unusual for Epic to add such specific cosmetics without eventually bringing the characters into the game in some form.

Of course, there’s a bit of a licensing wrinkle here. Shadow, with his edgier persona and history of wielding firearms in his own games, would fit Fortnite’s combat style without much controversy. Sonic, on the other hand, has never been associated with guns, which could be one reason SEGA has been hesitant to drop him into the battle royale until now.

Still, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is releasing later this month. That game itself leans heavily into crossovers, so it wouldn’t be too surprising to see both projects connect in some way.
