SEGA and Supercell have teamed up for a special crossover, bringing Sonic the Hedgehog and his friends into the chaotic world of Squad Busters from now to until July 7, 2025.

The event introduces beloved Sonic characters—Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and the villainous Dr. Eggman—into Supercell’s squad-based battler.

Alongside them comes a themed Green Hill Zone map, complete with Eggman stirring up trouble in his infamous Death Egg Robot.

The crossover isn’t just in-game either. To mark the occasion, Supercell has also released a nostalgic, 90s-style game magazine packed with throwback Sonic content.

Johnathan Rowlands, Head of Squad Busters at Supercell, shared his enthusiasm, noting that the Sonic franchise has had a lasting impact across generations. “We all spent our formative years exploring Green Hill Zone or humming the Sonic soundtrack on our way to school,” he said. He also highlighted how exciting it is to see characters like Sonic and Knuckles face off against Supercell originals like the Barbarian King and Archer Queen.

Takashi Iizuka, Creative Officer for Sonic, expressed equal excitement. “As a longtime Supercell player, it’s thrilling to see this collaboration happen,” he said. According to Iizuka, bringing Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles into the battlefield enhances team dynamics and brings a fresh energy to the game.

This crossover comes at a crucial time for Squad Busters, which recently underwent a major update with version 2.0. While the game has surpassed $100 million in revenue, it's still trailing behind Supercell’s biggest hits, each of which has crossed the $1 billion mark. The new version has sparked some momentum, generating around $1.8 million in the four weeks post-update, as per Appmagic.
