Soulja Boy’s New Handheld Sparks Backlash Over Alleged Retroid Copy

Rapper Soulja Boy is once again under fire in the gaming community after unveiling his latest handheld console, the SouljaGame Flip, which many claim is a rebranded version of an existing device.

Gamers Accuse Soulja Boy of Rebranding Retroid Pocket Flip 2 as His Own

Back in 2018, the rapper made headlines when he launched a line of handheld consoles under the SouljaGame brand. Those devices promised thousands of built-in titles, including games from Nintendo and PlayStation systems, but they were quickly flagged as ROM-hacked emulators. The venture didn’t last long, with his website being taken down amid speculation that legal pressure from Nintendo or other publishers forced his hand.

Fast forward to November 2025, and Soulja Boy is back with another attempt. The SouljaGame Flip was introduced as a premium handheld “for gaming enthusiasts who crave high-quality performance on the go.” On Instagram, he even showcased the device, claiming it could run games and access apps like TikTok. Initially priced at a steep $436, the console has since been reduced to $200.

The problem? Fans quickly noticed that the SouljaGame Flip looks nearly identical to the Retroid Pocket Flip 2, a legitimate handheld from console-maker Retroid. Even the promotional images on Soulja Boy’s website appeared to be lifted directly from Retroid’s official product page.

Retroid wasted no time responding. In a statement to RetroDodo, the company clarified: “This is not any kind of official licensing deal. He does not have permission to rebrand our products and sell them as his own. The Retroid Pocket Flip 2 is patented in the U.S. by ourselves.”

The specs listed for the Flip: a 5.5-inch 1080p AMOLED screen, Snapdragon 865 processor, and 8GB RAM match Retroid’s device exactly. The only real difference is the branding and the price tag.

Adding to the controversy, his website also lists other products, including smart glasses that resemble Meta’s Ray-Ban AI glasses, priced at just $64. While some fans see this as another case of dropshipping existing tech with inflated prices, others are simply baffled that the rapper continues to pursue this path despite repeated criticism.
