Splinter Cell Remake Teased by Ubisoft Ahead of Summer Game Fest 2025

Splinter Cell Sam Fisher

Ubisoft has dropped a mysterious teaser on social media featuring none other than Sam Fisher, the iconic protagonist of the Splinter Cell series.

The post includes a close-up shot of Fisher from 2005's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, along with just an eye emoji, a mouth emoji, and the hashtag #SplinterCell — enough to spark a wave of speculation.

The timing of this teaser definitely raises eyebrows, landing just days before Summer Game Fest kicks off on June 6.

According to insider Tom Henderson over at Insider-Gaming, he’s already seen the upcoming Splinter Cell Remake and described it as "genuinely impressive." Henderson has a solid track record with early Ubisoft reveals, and he’s hopeful that fans will get more news “sooner rather than later.”

It’s been over a decade since the last mainline game, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, dropped in 2013, and the series has been pretty much radio silent ever since.

Ubisoft officially announced the Splinter Cell Remake back in December 2021 via a YouTube video. The game’s being developed by Ubisoft Toronto, with some team members who actually worked on the original 2002 title. It’ll be a full-on remake built in the advanced Snowdrop engine, with a modernized story that still stays true to what made the original great.

Creative director Chris Auty spoke to IGN about the remake’s direction, saying the team is aiming to update parts of the game that haven’t aged too well over the past 20 years. Still, he made it clear the core story and gameplay are staying faithful to the original experience.

There have been some job listings that give a glimpse into how development’s going. Ubisoft’s hiring for a level design director to build “stealth-centric missions” that really capture the feel of Splinter Cell. Another listing from 2022 mentioned refreshing the story for a modern audience while keeping the heart and themes of the original.

With Summer Game Fest right around the corner, it seems like the perfect stage for a big reveal. Interestingly, Ubisoft isn’t officially listed among the event’s partners — at least not yet. Event host Geoff Keighley did say there are over 60 partners involved, though only 57 were revealed publicly. That leaves room for Ubisoft to pop up with a surprise announcement, possibly during a separate Ubisoft Forward event.
