Subway Surfers might be the next big game to make the jump to screens beyond your phone.
The colorful endless runner that’s kept players hooked for over a decade has now hit a massive milestone—4.5 billion lifetime downloads—making it the most downloaded mobile game of all time, according to developer Sybo.
And now? Its creators have their sights set on something even bigger: a Netflix series or a full-length movie could be in the works.
In a recent interview with Mobilegamer.Biz, Sybo CEO Mathias Gredal Nørvig confirmed the team is “definitely” looking into long-form storytelling for the Subway Surfers universe.
“We’re constantly listening to our players and striving to give them the new iterations of the IP they’re asking for,” said Nørvig. “We’ve already seen our community’s appetite for longer-form content from the positive reception of Subway Surfers: The Animated Series on YouTube.”
It wouldn’t be the first mobile game to make that leap—just look at the Minecraft movie, Netflix’s Arcane (based on League of Legends), or even the episodic anthology series Secret Level featuring Honor of Kings.
But that’s not all. Sybo’s also getting ready to share more about an upcoming runner spinoff called Subway Surfers City, which promises a fresh twist on the classic formula.
