Tango Gameworks, the beloved studio behind Hi-Fi Rush and The Evil Within series, has officially confirmed that it’s working on a brand-new, unannounced action game—marking a bold new chapter following its acquisition by Krafton, the publisher of PUBG.
This announcement comes alongside the launch of Tango’s newly revamped website, which offers a deeper look into the studio's updated philosophy, branding, and ongoing hiring efforts for the next big project.
What Is Tango Gameworks Working On Next?
While specifics remain under wraps, Tango Gameworks has revealed it is developing an early-stage action title built using Unreal Engine 5.
Based on job listings, the project will likely feature 3D action gameplay, possibly in the same stylish and fast-paced vein as Hi-Fi Rush.
The studio states: “We remain dedicated to the creation and growth of distinctive and new IPs, taking on challenges to be a unique voice in the game industry.”
Tango is currently recruiting for almost every department, including roles for cutscene managers, senior designers, and engineers with Unreal Engine 5 experience. These listings suggest a narrative-driven action game, though whether this is a new IP or a sequel like Hi-Fi Rush 2 remains unclear.
The Studio’s Comeback Story
Tango Gameworks’ future was thrown into uncertainty in May 2024, when Microsoft announced the closure of several Bethesda studios, including Tango. This was despite Hi-Fi Rush being labeled a "breakout hit" by Xbox execs.
But in a surprise turn of events, Krafton swooped in just months later, acquiring both Tango Gameworks and the Hi-Fi Rush IP in August 2024 as part of a strategic agreement with Microsoft. This move ensured the studio's survival and allowed its team to continue developing under new leadership.
“When we heard that Tango Gameworks was facing shutdown, our team immediately flew over to Tokyo,” said Maria Park, Krafton’s head of corporate development, to GamesIndustry.biz. “We recognised that Tango has this rich history of innovation and creativity.”
Now officially described as an "independent development studio based in Tokyo" under Krafton, Tango is repositioning itself as "a creative workshop" focused on delivering "hand-crafted, player-first experiences."
