Techland has officially canceled two of its in-development titles following back-to-back years of financial losses. The company is now prioritizing the upcoming Dying Light: The Beast, scheduled to launch in August 2025.

The announcement came through a press release, confirming that while two unnamed projects have been shelved, internal resources have been redirected to a new, unannounced game. According to reports by Pulz Biznesu, Techland suffered significant financial damage, recording approximately $37 million in losses in 2024, on top of around $25 million lost the previous year.

Although the studio didn’t publicly disclose which titles were affected, Insider Gaming revealed that one of them was Project Cornerstone, a fantasy action RPG first teased in May 2022. The game was said to draw heavy inspiration from the Star Wars universe—featuring mechanics similar to using “the force,” such as telekinesis and time manipulation. However, internal struggles, including leadership issues and a delayed transition to Unreal Engine, reportedly contributed to its downfall.

Meanwhile, some developers have shifted gears to work on a rumored sequel to Call of Juarez. The franchise last saw a mainline release in 2013, with publishing rights returning to Techland in 2018. The upcoming installment is expected to be built on Unreal Engine, marking a significant tech upgrade from the older Chrome Engine used in previous entries.

Despite the cancellations, Techland has clarified that no staff layoffs were involved. In a statement shared with the media, the company said: “Game development is never a straight line, and sometimes fresh approaches are necessary to make great games... Developers were moved to other projects and are working on a number of games in our pipeline.”

Techland’s current priority is the successful release of Dying Light: The Beast, which will launch on August 22, 2025, for PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, and Xbox Series X|S. Post-launch, the studio plans to share more about its future projects.
